My Angelfish Has Blood In Her Mouth

Hi Karin,

Would like to update you on the progress.........things are looking good thanks to you :)

Sorry in advance, I have to ramble whats been going on, cause I'm pretty excited..

I went to an aquarium store to get the med, as the pet stores don't carry this medication. API General Cure is not allowed for sale in Australia so they gave me Dimetridazole (DMZ) which is the same thing.

I dosed the tank that night, the following day 30% water change and following day cloudy tank. I freaked! Took my water to the aquarium store, no ammonia, no nitrites and no nitrates, even my PH was good. He said the filter bacteria remains stable while any other bacteria be it algae or another will be killed off and the cloudiness is the result of one of those. Said don't stress, keep going with the treatment and it will dissapear on it's own. It has :)

As for my baby, well she is looking mighty fine indeed! She didn't eat for 7 days, but the aquarium staff member asked what her favourite food was and I said brine shrimp, so he gave me an ecapsulated vitamin brine shrimp and she loved it. I am trying to feed her slowly but she is very keen. The white things that were on her side have gone but she has 2 holes that I hope will heal. Her gills are moving as normal and her mouth has settled, blood has gone.

I honestly thought I would loose her. She was going down hill so much, but this medication is terrific. I believe it has saved her life. I would recommend it to anyone with symptoms like Angel had. Only thing is, the aquarium man said that alot of people loose fish with this med, but this is due to poor water conditions, the water must be nitrite/nitrate/ammonia free before treatment to have this kind of success.

I owe you a HUGE big thank you Karin. :* Not sure if you can see I am really happy with the outcome so far and it is all thanks to you. If you hadn't put me on the right track, I think I would have lost her.

From this I have also learnt to deal only with aquarium stores as they only deal with fish, so they have the knowledge, experience and products available on hand.

Fingers crossed everything goes well. I know I'm not out of the woods just yet. I have treated the tank tonight for the 2nd time and have a water change tomorrow and then that should be it. Hopefully only 2 treatments is necessary.

MWAH to you Karin

And fishy smooches from Angel too

Lisa
