thanks for the reply, the koi actually is completely healed up. a day after i saw it the area flattened up. day after that the scales were all back. he seems to be doing very well. i think i might have just been a scrape. i might do a salt treatment for the pond sometime.

i noticed today while feeding my fish that my koi has a spot protruding on the left side at the end of his stomach. it has some missing scales and is white in that spot. what is this? should i hospitalize him? what can help him heal?

no theyre pure koi. most koi enthusiast will call butterfly koi inferior though, theyre nicknamed the "american kio". i personally think they can look very good, i have a very small 1 myself.

what do yall think about ghost shrimp in ponds with goldfish/koi? probably will get eatin but also might not. if it doesnt get eatin you think itll be a good scavenger, theyre basically underwater roaches.

my pond is about 2000g could be a tiny bit less. its a newer pond so i only have a a 8in koi and a small sarasa comet in it. and the food i feed is tetra color for ponds. and its made to soften VERY quickly so it sinks reletively quick and my koi is still scared to come out untill like 1 mins...

plecos arent very good algae eaters at all they much rather eat plants and leftovers. but a pleco that could do good in colder temps would be the snowking pleco and also the common pleco would be next in line. ive kept snow kings before they did fine in the winter had them for a few years...

ok i actually went out and measured how high the top of the waterfall would be from the water and its actually 2.5 ft so i should be able to use a cheaper pump :shifty: so i just found another beckett pump that is 130gph at 1ft lift and lift capacity of up to 4ft. would that 1 be better?

you feed catfish pellets successfully? did you have to do something to et them to eat it or is it the smell itself. also what brand did/do you use. i would love to just be able to feed them catfish pellets, so much simpler.

i used amquel, aqua safe, beckett pond dechlor, wardley chlor-out, chlorine away. some more expensive than others but are they better? i found a pretty good deal at home depot, their beckett one is pretty cheap and is a biggish bottle. suposively does more than just dechlor.
