    Territorial Or Bully Gourami

I have a 4" male opaline gourami that has become very dominant and possessive of food. I feed algae wafer to bottom feeders (catfish, loaches, etc) and he ends up bullying them/knocking the wafer around and away from them and eventually eats the entire thing. I can momentarily distract with...

I Can't Find The Right Ammonia To Cycle With

Hi again, I've acquired a master test kit and a heater. Can't find ammonia without it bubbling/foaming and without added ingredients/products - lemon fresh etc. Anyone in TX on here? Where did you get it? Maybe I'm missing something since I'm a Yank living Down South and I'm still not that...

    Fish Died - What Now?

Thanks for the ideas... I'm going to look into getting a bottle of ammonia after doing some more reading. It was a dwarf gourami.. .from my prior experiences w/ flames I remembered they do die frequently (inbreeding issues I think)

    Reintroduction

Hi!! I was primarily a lurker & posted sometimes (well, looks like I've got 60 posts actually) a few years back. I gave up my three aquariums when I finished college & graduated a couple of years ago but I'm starting to settle down in Texas. The fiance and I (we're tying the knot on August 4)...

    Fish Died - What Now?

I guess this is kind of a rough "welcome back" for me. Had fish for four years up until two years ago and it's amazing what a person can forget in such a small amount of time. I had an established gourami, an established betta colony and an established breeding angel tank during college. :-P...

    Missing Rasbora

Alright, the gourami had "dwarf gourami disease" - http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/item.php?news=1139 which is a virus. I read the entire FAQ here: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/FWsubwebindex/dwfgdis.htm for information about colisa lalia & diseases. That's what I came up with...

    Missing Rasbora

He had been out of the tank & in a 3 gallon jug for several weeks since he started hanging out on the bottom - I didn't medicate the main tank

    Missing Rasbora

The case of the missing rasbora... I've been down on my luck lately - I rehomed one of the angels because it started attacking my other, I introduced two new cories a month ago, lost both of them, finally lost a dwarf gourami to an internal parasite (colisa lalia disease) yesterday.... now...

    Gourami With Tumor

I do not have any problems with water stats, other than a relatively high pH (of 7.6). I've done some more reading and my gourami is colisa lalia: with symptoms of Gourami disease. I was just hoping that someone here would have had some experiences with this occurring in dwarf gouramis with...

    Gourami With Tumor

The first fish that I got when I started back up, the spring before last, was a powder blue dwarf gourami. He was the last one left at the store I was at and I have a feeling he wasn't that young when I got him. He's got a tumor now (at least, a bulge on his left side) and isn't nearly as...

    Another Cory...

I have one bronze cory, and had two corydora julii (leopard cory).. now one and one. Interesting about the toxins, is that at all harmful to other fish?

    Another Cory...

I lost a cory several weeks ago because it got cut on a rock in the tank and developed an infection: I took the rock out. This cory launched himself up to get a breath.. may have hit himself on something ... thats all I can figure???? and then swam around the tank really fast, then twitched at...

How Many Dead Fish Is Enough..

My principles in buying fish at this point: If there are many dead fish in the store's tanks, just go somewhere else. They're most likely using the same nets, same holding containers to transfer fish around so if some are unhealthy in some tanks, probably the majority of the tanks are...

    Red Sore & Cottony Growth

Rock was removed the same day that I noticed the sores. The fish was breathing heavy after I added the medication to his little container, and died overnight. No signs of flicking/rubbing/darting from other fish, they all seem fine still. I think he just got injured and infected. Thanks.

    Red Sore & Cottony Growth

It was dead when I woke up this morning - still no signs in the rest of the tank. He may have gotten cut on one of the slate rocks I had in the tank, I took those out for now and I'm going to just see what goes on in the other tank for a few days.

    Red Sore & Cottony Growth

I did a water change today and found that not only does one of my corycats have a red sore, it also has a white growth over it. This is the only fish showing any sign of illness at the moment and it has been put in a 1/2 gallon nut jar and medicated - that's the best I can do at college. I...

Any Idea What This Is On My Peppered Cory?

I am about to post something really similar to this. I did a water change today and found that my cory cat has an open red sore and large white patch on its side now.

    Just To Share.

I just feel that if it's your job... there's a responsibility that comes with it really understand what you're doing rather than giving poor advice to customers. Especially when they end up regarding that poor advice as the standard to go by rather than doing their own research. He took the...

    Just To Share.

Someone I know is giving fish away after losing most of his tank to ich after the introduction of new fish from Petsmart. He is giving two blue gouramis to a friend with a three gallon tank; each gourami is only 1.5" and "will only grow according to the size of their tank parameters." I tried...

    Tank Uncycled?

Hey - this post is from awhile ago but I've been without internet until now. I think there was an ammonia bloom in the water, it hasn't occurred again. I found out that he literally cleaned the entire filter out - took it and scrubbed it because "it was dirty." I ended up leaving really...

    Tank Uncycled?

I've been working at a JCC summer camp in New York as a high ropes instructor and had to leave my aquarium at home. My family has been taking care of the tanks and yesterday was my first day off in three weeks that I could come check on them. One was covered in green algae, all walls of it...

    Using Slate In Tank

Nice pics. Those fish look gigantic in the first one. My pieces are much smaller, I posted in the members' fish forum though. The kuhli loaches are enjoying themselves in it so far.

    Peek-a-boo

These are the first photos I've posted on here. This is my 30 gallon tank and the slate rock cave at the right is my first natural addition to the tank. One inhabitant in particular seems to enjoy the rocks for sure, so far... Entire tank could do with a background on it - other tank has...

Some of what I've read online makes it look like the rock might still cause the pH to rise. Hopefully it won't. Thanks.

    Using Slate In Tank

My tank has a natural ph of 7.6. It's a bit high but the entire time the fish have been it its been a steady 7.6 I've not had any tremendous problems or losses. So I got a ton of natural slate this past weekend while camping, boiled it twice when I brought it home (mom has a canning jar cooker...

    Khuli Loach

I have three black kuhlis and in the first 3 weeks or so that I had them, they hid entirely. I have a cave in my tank and they rarely ever ventured out of it; then I found out they were moving about at night time when the tank light was out and not during the day. Yours might just need some...

My 46 Gallon Tank That I Thought Was Big Isn't Squat:(

Or how about a kuhli loach? Mine are great, although I have the solid black type. Very active, lots of fun to watch too when they're out and about. =)

    Dwarf Blue Is Blue?

I have a powder blue dwarf in with three black neons - not the same fish as cardinals, but neons are similar in appearance. They haven't had any problems together, have been in the same tank since last November. It may depend on the individual fish (I also have not read that they're...

    The Septicemia

Yes - the white patches on the lip of the bleeding heart tetras are gone too. The entire tank has perked up too

    Opalines, How Big

When I got my opaline it was under 2" - it was smaller than the dwarf it shares a tank with. It's now about 5" in size and hasn't really grown in awhile. Very pretty, active fish albeit a little larger than I thought. The little dwarf still picks on him too.

    The Septicemia

The septicemia that was in my tank was cleared up with the use of Maracyn Plus for a little over a week; the gourami with the red fins has totally cleared up, as have the white (columnaris possibly) patches on some of the other fish. I've been doing frequent water changes and in the end only...

    Redness

I did a good search for "Maracyn plus septicemia" and came up with these links: http://store.everythingreptileinc.com/60100.html http://comfortfirst.com/p-72875-maracyn-pl...ntbacteria.aspx It might be possible that the link you sent just didn't mention septicemia for the list of infections...

    Redness

So...is there something else I have ought to try then? I thought that Maracyn plus was a combination of maracyn 1 and 2, which were what was suggested previously for this treatment?
  38. C

    Redness

I read that and it indicates I should continue to use the Maracyn to treat these problems. The mouth had a fluffy white patch on it. It's gone now but will still keep treating with Maracyn/Melafix - the gourami still has red on his fins and face. The fins do not have pink edging. I think that...

    Redness

Any signs of darting or laboured breathing, gasping at surface of tank. No, they're breathing fine - I've kept an eye on them when home. Grey patches can mean a number of things like columnaris, parasites, etc. One fish has a white patch on its mouth now. Any signs of flicking and rubbing...

    Redness

I've done that now (the water change & added medication). The light's been off in the tank, and I'm noticing that some of the fish appear to have clear/grey patches hanging from their bodies as well. If this was a problem with the hose I used or problem with the bleach, I know at least to be...
