    Parasite?

thanks for the reply! Apart from that, he is all normal. I don't see anything wrong with him. The thing has also reduced in size drastically today. I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens. The tank has no hard surfaces and for substrate, I'm using sand. I have never seen him bump into things...

    Parasite?

No the mouth does not look swollen and is not bleached and there is no wool fungus either. So I don't think it is columnaris. However, today, whatever it was in the front of its mouth has drastically reduced in size.

    Parasite?

Thanks Colin T. I tried to take another picture. This is the best my camera can do. Anyway, here is another picture which shows the whole fish. I've boxed off the area of interest.

    Parasite?

Thanks for all your help Wilder. All the other fish are active and unaffected. I've started treament with Malachite green/ formalin. I'll see how things go from here. I don't think it is anchor worm as the pictures from the internet don't look like the one that this fish has.

    Parasite?

It's not completely white. Sort of off white. I'm in the US. As far as noticeable features, it is the only fish that has it and bit it seems active and all; i.e not resting anywhere

    Parasite?

it looks like a parasite attached to its mouth. I looked at it closely but i don't think i see a forked tail.

    Parasite?

If you look near the mouth area of the fish, you can see a something that is attached to it. Whatever that thing is, it doesn't look like it is columnaris or of that sort. It looks pretty stiff and the fish is able to close and open its mouth properly. I've included the same picture below with...

    Parasite?

I bought a couple of white clouds and have been keeping them in a cycled(ammonia: 0, nitrite, 0.0, nitrate, 10) tank without a heater. I recently noticed that one of them has a sort of "hook" around its mouth. It doesn't look like cotton mouth to me. But I've attached a picture below. Can y'all...

    Planted Adventure

I have a very very low tech tank that I have had since the beginning of June.(~4 to 5 months). I am now wanting to upgrade the tank and revamp it quite a bit to be able to support a variety of plants. Here is a brief info about the tank: It is a 46gallon bow, with stock lighting(i think its...

    Buffering Ro Water

Thanks for the reply! I would rather not use tap water as mine contains ammonia(1 ppm)Thanks for the reply! I would rather not use tap water as mine contains ammonia(1 ppm - Yikes!) My Sisters Tank

brown algae is caused by silicates in the water and by a deficiency of light. If after increasing the light, it still persists, consider getting some ottos.

    Buffering Ro Water

Well, I just ordered a pair of German Blue Ram through my LFS and am thinking about breeding them as its very hard to find any locally. But the problem is the water I have is very very hard with a pH of around 8.2. So i've resorted to RO water. What are some good products that I can use to...

    Ill Swordtails

If you are hesitant in using aquarium salt, add the dosage of quick cure(formalin and malchite green) (much stronger treatment, can bring side effects later though but seems like your best bet) to treat for fungus/parasites(including ich). its only like $2.49 or something along those lines...

    Ill Swordtails

As far as I am aware, aquarium salt will not speed up or bring on dropsy.I would add a tbsp per 5gallon of water as livebearers like salt in their water anyway. Good Luck! Salt will not mess with other medications.
  22. G

    Ill Swordtails

Yes add maracyn one and two. Keep up with the water changes or look for an ammonia removing resin/ material during treatment as ammonia/nitrite can really take a toll on the fishes and impede them from making a recovery. Regular aquarium salt will suffice. What other fish do you have. Remember...

    Ill Swordtails

Increase the temp to 82F. The copper safe would have killed off the snails ad hence causing the ammonia/nitrite spike. Keep up with the water changes and provide plenty of aeration. Adding salt was a good thing. Dissolve it in water before dumping into the tank otherwise it can burn their skin...

    Ill Swordtails

i would start them on maracyn one and maracyn two ASAP. this should take care of the bacterial problem(external). To be sure that they dont have any internal bacterial infection, treat them with medicated food(Jungle labs make one). For external parasites, treat it with copper sulfate(sold as...

    Stringy Poo

Your fishes are most likely suffering from internal parasites. Look for food containing prazi and/or metro. Jungle Labs makes one and I Hikari also makes one under the name PraziPro. Sometimes stringy poo can also be caused by bacterial infections, sou might want to get some anti-bacterial food...

Brown Stuff Growing In My Tank =\

its nothing but brown algae( actually diatoms). its caused by new tanks., gravels releasing silicates into the tank. Its not harmful to fish and not to worry about and will probably go away in 6 months or so. Till then you would have to manually clean it. It comes off easily
