I recently lost 2 angels to an attack (most possibly from my catfish), as no one seems to believe that my silver dollars are capable. While removing the dead fish i noticed that 2 big lumps of wood that i had recently added to the tank looked like tea bags in that there was a brownish colour...

I had the same problem, so i changed water and done all the usual stuff, no change. I diverted the flow from my external filter and it sorted the problem straight away.???

Hi, i have a Juwel Filter running with my 190 Litre Tank, it looks after itself and is easy to clean. However, i also have a tetra Tec 1200 and have noticed that the tubes runnign in and out are looking a bit green. Is there a method for cleaning these.?

I had always wanted a marine tank with bright corals and lots of light and colour, however, i now have black glass gravel, bog wood, and other dark woods, with bright green plastic plants and a few large white rocks, i put in 2 special bulbs which are not bright but really bring out the colours...

i did research and was told by a very reliable LFS that there "should" be no problems, plus my Red Tail was the most unaggressive Red Tail ive ever had....!but alas poor Discus i knew him well!!!

Tino, it takes a lot more work and you have to make sure you have the right fish before you start putting in live plants, ive thought about it for so long but then its so much easier with plastic, plus when you are bored you can change the tank around....not so much with live stuff!

[I think you can buy some stuff from your lFS to do this..? There is probably a more organic way of doing it but not neccessarily as accurate..

Hey Nath, i actually bought him because he looked so nice, i was told that he would hide all the time but its not the case. He is always out and if he is hiding and i want to show him off i just tap the glass lightly and he comes out and follows my finger around the tank.I have a few hiding...

I have the same problem, my black gravel at the bottom of the tank is still jet black but the top layer (1 inch) is covered in algae and scum. Im assuming its an easy thing to clean but until it gets out of hand i think ill leave it.

I have 6 silver dollars, 3 Angels and a catfish. I feed them 2 blocks of Bloodworm and its gone in seconds, the fish dont seem to be hungry after this but i know they will eat if i throw something back in.? Is 2 blocks of frozen worms enough or should i be adding pellets and tablets aswell...

Mine certainly are not skittish, probably because i introduced them to a near empty tank. I suppose if i had of added them to a community tank they may have gone straight into hiding.

So i added 6 Silver Dollars to the tank and they adapted very well even along side a 7" catfish, they have plenty of places to hide and as soon as he has eaten they all come out and have so far eaten shelled peas, flakes, pellets, and savaged a cuBe of bloodworm, which completely went against...

Sorry Alex but i havent actually bought the silver dollars yet, was hoping to get them this weekend. My catfish is alone in the tank at the moment so im looking for tankmates for him. I think Angels and silver dollars are the way to go.

Would a shoal (6-7) of silver dollars be ideal companions for a lone catfish (Ocellifer) in a 190 litre tank.? And if so what other options do i have in terms of stocking after the silver dollars have gone in and settled down. I need some colour but not Gouramis. What about Angels.?

No point peeing about with small externals, get the biggest you can afford as this will future proof your tank and you will be amazed withthe water quality. I have the same tank an bought a TetraTec EX 1200 external. Havent loooked back since.

Cheers lads, i actually just got rid of 2 large gold gouramis and 4 dwarfs as i was bored with them. I was hoping to get some large Discus but ive been told that my catfish would attack them. Im not getting rid of the cat because he is a fine specimen. I might research rams and see where i go...

Thanks Mikster, i have already started to slowly get the temp back down to 27-28 degrees, and yes the pics are the same as my catfish. I was thinking of large cardinals and forgettign about the discus. Would large Abgels fit in this tank.?

Hi I have a Brown Discus in a 180 Litre Tank who is showing signs of disease. (White Fins, sluggish behaviour, the usual stuff). He is the only fish in the tank as i was starting over. The water was perfect, the temp was fine. I have medicated him but he doesnt seem to be getting any better...
