[I think you can buy some stuff from your lFS to do this..? There is probably a more organic way of doing it but not neccessarily as accurate..

guppies n what not need a slightly higher ph..thats y

Take it from me a lot of tropical fish these days are captive bred especially guppies. If you saw a wild guppy it is far removed from the colourful strains in the hobby today. pH7 is neutral and is most adequate for keeping the majority of species available. I said keeping... Breeding is a different matter entirely which is why I posed the original reply regarding why do you need to change your pH. Are your fish showing any kind of distress at present if not leave well alone. Too many members on this forum are being fed a myriad of solutions to suspected problems which wern't really a problem in the first place. Only to magnify the situation, then it's off down to the LFS for some wonder cure. Sorry to sound so harsh and I'm not having a go at anyone. I'm simply saying don't create problems for yourself and your fish if there's no need.
Take a look in the emergency ward on this forum to see the stressful things that are happening to our fish.
So sorry for the rant but the fish rely on us to look after them and just because a book says they need this and that doesent always ring true. Observe your fish constantly they will tell you when things are not right.
We used to install aquariums in hospital wards for theraputic reasons cant imagine doing this today due to the stress it would cause them.
I could go on but I'll leave it there.

Incidentally the pH can be raised by using Bicarbonate of Soda. Be Careful..... it needs to be done ever so slowly over a period of time.

just out of interest what are the symptons of pH problems?

my pH changes - out of the tap quite alot, it ranges from 7 to 9, and has meant I do minimal water changes - since what ever they put in the water hurts the fish - if I adjust the pH in the Water Change about a month later some fish will die, it always seemed very sudden but I kept a (sad )diary and so stopped adjusting the ph and the ifsh stopped dying fingers crossed touch wood etc...

Does adding water with a different ph cause long term damage to the fish is there some thing I should be looking out for?

if this makes no sense its because I am watching CSi at the same time.
