Hi All
I am in the process of re stocking my tank. I have a 190 litre with a juwel filter and an external Filter. Water quality is perfect,6.8-7ph, etc.Temp is at 30 degrees as i am in talks with my LFS about stocking Discus. At the moment all i have is 3 x ottos and a very large(6 in) Ocellated Catfish. Im still in talks with my LFS about the discus and they have reccommended that i add a large shoal of cardinals first. My question is will the cardinals be ok in such a high temp tank? and are they good copmanions for the catfish and the possibility of adding discus in the near future.. Please advise, thanks.

cardinals ace great fish and would go into that tank nicely but make sure the tank has been running a few months before adding them. Not sure about discus though, probably could do with a bigger tank and maybe RO water. Not 100% sure on that as ive never kept discus myself but im sure someone else can give better advice. I have no idea what catfish that is as ive never heard of it but if its 6 inches then it might start thinking about eating your other fish in the future, unless its fully grown now?

EDIT: 30 degrees is a bit too warm for most fish really, cant you get the temp down any further? maybe something like 26?

EDIT 2: is this what catfish you have? http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/speci...?species_id=551
If so it may try and eat your tetras if they are small.

Thanks Mikster, i have already started to slowly get the temp back down to 27-28 degrees, and yes the pics are the same as my catfish. I was thinking of large cardinals and forgettign about the discus. Would large Abgels fit in this tank.?

Yeah you could get a few angels in there, they may well try and eat the cardinals as well though well fully grown, some of them do and some dont so its pot luck really. How about something like pearl gourami?

Yeah it would be great for rams too, i was gunna suggest that too but i have a preference for gourami so i was trying to push that, but if your after a SA cichlid type fish then your best bet would be some rams i reckon.

Cheers lads, i actually just got rid of 2 large gold gouramis and 4 dwarfs as i was bored with them. I was hoping to get some large Discus but ive been told that my catfish would attack them. Im not getting rid of the cat because he is a fine specimen. I might research rams and see where i go from there.
