I'm in Somerset, I've only had them a few months and as I said rarely see them so sexing them is hard to say the least. I've 2 pairs of Bristlenoses ( in different tanks ) and never had any luck breeding those. Is there anything I can do to increase the chances with both breeds of plecs ?

I'd say Acara, GT's ( esp Males ) have a Bump on the head where as BA's don't plus the lack of colour around the tail points me to it being Acara. As kubora says there are a lot of hybrids about so it may well be a mixture, I even managed to breed some by accident a few years ago and still have...

Thanks for the quick reply, no, he has no spots or stripes just uniformed rows of scales. As for colour it's a bit of a brighter yellow than in the photo. His tail does look like that of a L24 or L25, that's the best discription I can give really.

Can anyone ID this plec for me, it was sold as an Albino Plec but that's pretty non discript. I guessing it's just an Albino Common Plec ? It was only £10 and the only 1 they had so it had to come home with me.

If that tank was mine ( I wish ) I'd go with something like this. 1st, A nice centre piece Plec. A scarlet L25 fantastic looking fish, get to around 15". HERE 2nd A couple of Bristlenose Plecs, to keep the algea under control. 3rd Bottom Dwellers, A mixture of Corys. 4th Bottom midwellers...

I've got 3 of them and they don't come out very often ( did see 2 of them yesterday though ). I've read that a high percentage don't survive long due to them not acclimatising very well to new surroundings. I wish you the best of luck with him/her as they are lovely fish.

15 Gallons is a little to small for plecs, but 1 you possibly could fit in would be a L260 Queen Arabesque. They only get to around 3.5" in length and are a very nice fish. Kept with small mid dwellers I think you may just get awaty with it.

Queens ( L260 ) are great looking Plecs, don't woory they only get to a max 4". How much did you pay ?

I've got that really fine black gravel in 2 of my tanks, along with a black paint background, I think it looks really cool. A nice happy medium between sand and gravel. IMO both sand and gravel have their advantages, and disadvantages. With gravel fine bits of food can get trapped and rot away...

Kelley, Fish need tome to relax and chill, having the lights on for an excesive amount of time will make this impossible for them, also, most tropical fish come from near the equator hence their natural routine is around 8-10 hrs of light per day. Your tanks with plants won't have as much algae...

How many hours a day do you have your light on ? If kept on too long algae will be a prblem, aim for 8-10 hrs per day and if possible have a 2hr break with the lights off.

Every 3 months for mine. ( Pro 2222, Pro II 2026 and Pro III ) I give it all a good clean, pipes as well, rinse the blue pad and re-use and replace the white pads on top, jobs a good 'un.

What about a Queen Arabesque ( L260 ). They only get to 3.5" in length. A great looking Plec and are quite common and not too expensive ( around £20 - £25 ). I think they'll be perfect for your tank.

There's loads of Plecs that reach over a Foot long ( I guess you'd call that large ) but finding them can be a problem. In my local Maidenhead Aquatics they've got a couple of L25 scarlet plecs which grow to around 17", a VERY nice fish...

Just a thought but why not buy a tank from Windsor Aquatics ( The TFF sponsor ) I hear the prices are alot lower than "Branded" tanks, they also deliver. Worth a look. P.S. I don't like Juwel tanks, those horrid filters and flimsy lids aren't for me.

I agree with Tolak, a nice small plec, ( i.e Rubbernose, L260 Queen Arabesque, L134 Leopard Frog all stay under 5" ) or a group of 5 or so Panda Corys would look good.

£6 for a Panda Cory...I pay £1.99 at my LFS. Some shops have no morals.

I use an Eheim 2026 in my 44 gal UK tank, it's comes in at around £100 ( not cheap I know ) but it's a great filter and I only service it once every 3 months.
