The fluval tank I have has the glass supported but the frame of the tank itself which is why it is not needed. Only tanks with the glass touching the surface it's on need polystyrene as far as I know. Hope this helps Dani

I've had them about 6 and a half weeks now. It wasn;t a fish shop I went to unfortunalty just a pet shop and no they didn;t have anything of use to me. Nearest lfs is a 45 min walk away and not really up for that now. Hopefully I'll be able to blag a lift later.

I have lowered the water level by 20%. Unfortunately I don't have that many buckets so draining the tank much more than I have isn't really an option. They move too fast and I'm sure I'm stressing them out more by trying, I know I'm getting more stressed with it. Also being planted doesn't help...

That's good to know. Both my heater and filter become exposed when doing a water change so they will definitely be turned off but it's nice to know I can leave my lights on and see what I'm doing. Thanx for your help everyone :) Dani

I have a fluval 1200 duo deep tank so the lights seem pretty safe in their hood to me. Would be great if I could keep them on so I can do a decent job. Never thought about leaving the bubbler on but as I only got fish just over a week ago it's something that just never crossed my mind. Dani
