White Spot On Lip

When feeding my fish I realized that a few of my fish have a white spot on their lip. Tank has been cycling for 8 weeks, the fish were purchased last Saturday. I have a bit of a green water problem at the moment as well, have done for a few weeks now. Have tried blackouts but it didn't help and my plants didn't like it

Tank size:55 gallons
pH:7.4
ammonia:0
nitrite:0
nitrate:40
tank temp:25.5-27 C (depends if the light is on or not)

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):A white spot on the lip, clour seems fine and they are still very active and feeding

Volume and Frequency of water changes:Will be 20% a week starting today

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank:Foam filter pads in fluval 4 plus filter

Tank inhabitants:8 pearl danios

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration):3 plants added the day I bought the fish

Exposure to chemicals:none

Sand substrate, a few rocks

Any other info needed just ask, I'm guessing it's whitespot but as a noobie your advice is needed

Do the spots on the lips look cottony in any way. If the spots on the lips do look cottony it is most likely columaris. If it was white spot "ick" it would look like the whole fish was sprinkled with salt. Try discribing the spot a little better, such as does it look like it is on the lip or pushing up through the skin? Is it outline in red or have a red spot in the middle? Can you tell if it is hard or soft? Anything will help.

There's no red at all. I done a 10% water change, couldn't do a bigger one with my little girl under my feet It seems that not so many of them have them anymore. The one I could see looked see-through now rather than white, like a bubble of skin.

On inspection this morning it seems that there is still a few with the spots and they are white, the one which looked like a bubble it white again. I have had one friend who has spoken to their friend who used to work in a fish shop and they reckon it could just be stress and adding salt may help. Still only one spot per fish and its on their lip. I reckon maybe four have them now. The group of pearl danios have, half of them bigger than the others and it seems that it's the bigger ones that have these spots.

Any ideas?

Well the spots are still there, not getting worse and no new fish have got them. Please can someone help me on what this might be. I'm new to keeping fish and am worried about them. Getting to a fish shop isn't easy for me as I don't drive so popping in to ask them isn't really an option. Would adding salt help or not?

Seems like ich ... do a 25% water change, clean the gravel, add salt/coppersafe, raise the temp to 87F i.e 31C (this is most important as parasites will fall off) and run the air stone at full blast ...

Yeah I thought ich but wouldn't the whole fish be covered in it not just a single spot? That's the bit that gets me, it's just a single spot on only 3 fish out of 8. I was planning a water change today anyway as a precaution and to try and help my greenwater problem.

No thats not ick. If it was ick the fish would be covered with tiny white specks. It would look like someone sprinked the fish with salt. I'm guessing that it is some sort of bacterial infection. Treat with a braod spectrum bacterial med. Mardel makes a good product called Maracyn and Maracyn two. They are safe for your bio-filter as well.

They're looking a bit better now but think I will go buy some Maracyn tomorrow and treat them to be on the safe side. I didn't want to go out and buy something which was wrong which is why I've left them this long without treatment. Thanx a lot puffdaddy

Ok just looking around for a price for Maracyn and it seems it's a US product. Am I correct in this? And if so what would be the UK equivalent?

I'm sorry I did not notice you were in the UK. I'm also unsure what a good med from the UK would be for your case as I'm in the US. But try to find a broad spectrum anti-bacterial med (preferably bio-filter safe).

No worries. At least I know what I'm looking for now, well kinda. Anyone from the UK got any suggestions on what I should buy? The people at my lfs are fairly knowledgeable so hopefully they will be able to point me in the right direction.
