Pearl Is Going Back To Lfs

Gouramis are agressive, but I highly doubt it killed one of your other fish. I kept Blue gouramis (some say the most agressive gourami), and they did just fine I very rairly see them chase anything that was not another gourami. And I found that age or size, has nothing to do with temperment.

    Help!

What is the wrong with sand??? As long as you don't have an UGF you can use larger gravel, river rock, coral (coral will raise you ph) ect. How big are the fish?

    Giant Gourami

Do you have a tank to put her in? If so fill up the tank 50-75% with water from your current tank and the rest with new water (put a filter on it if you have one, or do 25% water changes EVERY DAY). If you don't have another tank do a 50% water change in your main tank, then go to the pet store...

    How Many And Who With

Blue gouramis can get very agressive towords other gouramis. I stoped some of the agression by keeping all the gouramis the same size and only keeping females (but females can also be agressive), and adding them to the tank all at once. I have only keeped blue's so I can only post about them...

    Worried About Moving Fry

Why wouldn't you bag them??? If they are really young I would bag them, adding some water just incase something is a little off. Congrats on the fry :D

    Minimum Tank Size

The bigger the better, the more the better. But if you stick with the 1-2 gal. of water per 1 in. of fish you should be good. And I would not keep less then 6. I had a 30 gal set up with 20 male guppies. They are cool looking fish, but I found they didn't have a lot personality (don't be mad...

I'm In A Vacation Dilemma Here

I would do a 50% water change, and use one of those 1 week feeder blocks, break it in 1/4 (or smaller). The auto feeders tend to feed too much and with you being away so long the fish will eat more and produce more waste and could do more damage then just not feeding him at all. 2.5 weeks is not...

New 55 Gallon Tank , Yay

I say test your tap water ph and if its high go with cichlids. If not what about a community/planted tank?

    Ph

Baking soda is a quick solution but does not last long, to bring your ph up you can do a 25-30% water change and in the new water add about 1 tsp per 5 gal, do this everyother day until your ph is where you want it. Check your ph about 2 hours after you do a water change. It is important to...

    Green Puffers Turning Grey

It sounds like they are brackish (between fresh and salt), some brackish fish do fine in freshwater, until they don't. they tend to last ohhh anywhere from a couple days to a few years. You never really know, but most die off withing a few weeks. If you could ID it (google), you could then see...

    Cichlid Problem

Yeah 7.5 is okay my tanks are at 7.8, I think he just is in shock. No your temp is fine (I keep mine a little higher then others, but yours is well within the guidlines) A steady PH is more important then anything, and like you said it sounds like he had long day and possibly 3 different ph...

New Tank Smells After 5 Days

    Cichlid Problem

Raise the temp a bit to 80-82 F, did you check the PH before you put him in or after? How did you raise it? Is the tank cycled??? The temp is a bit low (not much) but could cause him to be less active. If your PH was different (as little as .2 matters) than the tank he came from and you just put...

    Your Opinions Of Fighting Bettas

I don't quite understand why you think these things. Fighting bettas for a short time can't be cruel to them, because they do it in the wild. Male bettas don't HAVE to fight each other, but they evolved this way. Scientific studies showed that they found it rewarding to have another male to...

    Your Opinions Of Fighting Bettas

Why is this even be discussed??? :-( I think you are a little boy who needs to grow up, , I think anyone who thinks it would be cool to watch them fight are just sad. I agree battas do fight and it is natural for them to fight for territory but in the wild one can leave and go to...

    Snails In Tank

Do you happen to have live plants in your tank? That is the most common way to get snails. I Like them, but they do get out of hand very quickly.

    Freshwater Sharks

Catfish are very cool and can get really large, If you are not too put off by fish you could look into Oscars i have never kept them but they eat live food, get really big and are really cool to watch. There are lots of options out there for people looking fo more than small community fish.

    Freshwater Sharks

UMMMM I know nothing about sharks but I don't think they are "real sharks" as in related to saltwater sharks. I think you may be talking about bala, redtail or someother kind of freshwater fish. But I don't know of any that grow 5 feet. But if I am wrong you would need 100's of gallons and lots...

    Considering An African Cichlid Setup

I was just saying in my opinion the more agressive cichlids I have keeped have been blue. Here are some examples: melanochromis chipokae Kenyi demasoni Johannis Pseudotropheus Socolofi For most people the only place to get cichlids is somewhere like petco, and they do not label...

    Considering An African Cichlid Setup

Here are some basic rules to african cichlids: TANK:I think it is best to keep your options open so the bigger the tank the better ( I think your tank is a 45 gal). FILTER: They can be messy so stay away from undergound filters, I use hob filters in my tanks and they seem to work great...

    Planted Tank Newbie Journal

Great post I am starting to do a 30 gal planted tank, Themuleous what kind of damage will the carbon do? I want my plants to be healthy but if I leave the carbon out will my filtration suffer? Is there an alternative to carbon that will help keep my tank clear? thanks Fillet 'O' Fish for...

New Tank Smells After 5 Days

You will not get rid of the smell or the milky/funny water until your tank cycled. Hang in there, it will take a few weeks. Do 25% water changes (you have to take water out, you can not just add water) once a week to help keep your levels down, Whatever you do, do not change all the water or...

New Tank Smells After 5 Days

Even If they say your water is fine I highly doubt your tank has cycled yet (this could be why one fish died), and you may get more deaths latter on. Pet stores may not test for ammonia witch could cause a smell and fish death. What size is the tank? What kind of fish do you have? If you...
