hi all getting new tank. want to have a species tank could you please help me decide .tank will be 150 litres plus. have 2 dwarf red gouramis in one tank and 2 dwarf gouramis in another community tank .would like to try the larger species i.e. blue gouramis but need advice .

Any of the Trichogaster species (Pearl Gourami, Thick-lipped Gourami, Moonlight Gourami, Snakeskin Gourami, Honey Gourami, and Three-spot Gourami) could be kept in a 150-liter tank except the snakeskin, which probably gets too big. Three-Spot Gourami and Blue Gourami are common names for the same species, T. trichopterus. My personal favorite is the Pearl Gourami, and if you're looking for a real challenge, the Chocolate Gourami Sphaerichthys osphromenoides is another interesting fish.

Blue gouramis can get very agressive towords other gouramis. I stoped some of the agression by keeping all the gouramis the same size and only keeping females (but females can also be agressive), and adding them to the tank all at once. I have only keeped blue's so I can only post about them, but they are very cool. :D

Gouramis have been my favorite type of fish for a while i have kept many different varieties i found them to be very interesting and have very individualistic personalities ranging form very passive to highly aggressive, but no worries i have yet to have and extreme case. This is the order of agression in gouramis(that i have kept) from my experience.
most aggressive to least*

Kissing gouramis- average 8" can rarely grow bigger- these are very beautiful and aggressive. best to keep in small groups because most of their aggression will be towards each other, so it is best to keep a group of similar sized fish.

Paradise fish-average 4-5" Very athoritative fish. often grumpy but when in good mood will have very vibrant colors, when i had one it was the unquestioned leader of the tank, and would have to haze a new fish befor accepting it into tank. Very interesting in the fact that they can survive in a wide range of temperature a range of 30 or more degrees 60*F-90*F

Blue/gold gouramis- average 6" fun fish, wide range of temperments from very calm to agressive. does well in a planted tank with other gouramis. best kept in tank with many "land marks" so it could claim one or two as its own.

moolight/pearl gouramis average 6" very gracefull and friendly fish, few moments of aggression in most of these. i currently have 1 6" moonlight a 41/2" pearl and a 2" pearl in a 55gal and have had no problems what so ever, the moolight is the leader of the group the bigger pearl is friendly and stays farly close to him and the little guy is new and shy but has not been picked on.

dwarf yeah im sure you know about these

Hope this helps, i hope you'll love as much as i do
good luck

EDIT:
im not too sure about what 150L tranlsates to in us gallons but i would reccomend in a 30 gal-2b3blue/gold/moonlight/pearl no kissing 40-3blue/gold/moonlight/pearl 2kissing
