I have Opera, Firefox and IE on my computer and I always use Firefox, no idea why but I prefer it to IE. Opera is good but its almost exactly the same as FF...

Here i have something which will speed up your Firefox.

It works trust me !!!

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

Does doing this have any adverse effect besides slowing servers down?

I love firefox, it has saved me many hours over the years that used to be spent swearing black and blue at IE and throwing furniture.

The main diff between firefox and opera is compatibility. Firefox has the edge in regards to that as alot of things that are optimised for firefox aren't tested on opera, thus problems can jump up from time to time (same goes between firefox and IE, although the amount of crap that goes wrong with IE more than makes up for this ).

I used to use IE, but then I started using FF, it's faster, only slighty. It blocks alot of pop-ups, and I just personally prefer it. I've never got security problems from any of them, as i'm careful of what I download. I think it's down to personal preferance although FireFox is better than IE, some may agree and some may disagree, if you use FireFoxes other features, it is actually quite good as you can create your own toolbars, and IMO, FireFox looks alot more neater and proffesional.

I like the look of firefox, but speed seems the same. I have had some issues downloading plug ins so I use IE.

I just got the remove it perminently plug in for firefox, and its really handy to be able to remove any object I want, even blocks of text.

HSBC doesnt let me sign in. have to be using IE.

some MS sites you have to be using IE too.

That's the site's fault, they're just being idiots, they want you to use IE for some reason.

It has nothing to do with firefox at all, it's just some people demand you use IE to see their site... for no real reason...

Anyway, IE is hell for web designers like me because they don't stick to the standards and do whatever the hell they want. Like someone mentioned earlier that the scrollbars on myspace don't show up - well yeah, they don't, because the code to chagne scrollbars is a proprietary MS code, not a standard.

MS does all sorts of stuff like that. They are destrying the effort to standardize web code, so that all browsers can view things equally. MS knows they can get away with it, cause so many people use IE, but lately they've been dipping, so I think with IE7 they're attempting to improve support of standards.

The only time i use IE is when checking emails (as its default off MSN) and when using my FTP for my site as it wont work on FF

You could get the "IE inside Firefox" addon for your Firefox. You can then set this to be used as default for any website you specify. E.g. Install the add on, set MSN.com to be used by the IE add on and when you browse to this page in firefox it will load in the IE tab working perfectly.

However I prefer to use Internet Explorer 7. Even though it's still in Beta it's much faster and has much better memory usage than IE6

firefox is kinda like an everlasting trend, in time it will devour I.E. completely

that's what people say about Mac versus pc

yeh and the only reason Mac still exsist is because Microsoft have pumped billions into it to avoid anti trust problems in the states.

on topic. FF seems to be faster, wider featured, more secure, so just plain better ive use firefox/mozilla for 4 years or so now. ive always thought of IE as a big computer bug, nothing in its development has changed my mind. lol there seem to be lots of people who agree
