Thanks for the comments Guys. :good: I think your right Sam, the Swords are very dominating. Im not sure what to do no though. It seems a shame to waste them as they are so strong and vibrant in colour. I think I may need to thin them out though. Regards Brian

Well Tropica is surely a top substrate, I had a real jungle going on in the tank, and decided on a good prune. :D Tank yesterday before prune: My attempt at getting some order in there.....(think triangles he says to himself) :unsure: Any suggestions on re-structuring the plant...

You only need a 1cm layer of the Tropica substrate, so the 5 litre bag would be more than enough for you, possibly even the 2.5 litre bag and at only £14.99 on AE thats got to be a bargin :good: I used the 5 litre bag for my 400 litre tank and had great results - see my journal on here...

Bummer about the wrong fittings on the reactor Dave. :crazy: Are they going to change it Ok for you? One solution if you have trouble getting it exchanged may be to get a hose adaptor. I know AE sell them. Te only thing is it may affect your flow I suppose :unsure: I hope they sort it for you...

Dave I ordered the Aquamas one from Ebay after James recomendation earlier last week. It has arrived, and I have not had time to fit it yet, but it is very good quality and looks fine. As James says, you just have to state you want 12mm connectors when ordering. I did not have to as my RENA XP3...

Thanks Nero :good: I do gravel vac. I think so long as you cover with the minimum 3cm of gravel over the substrate that Tropica recomend there should not be a problem. I have had no issues of it mixing yet. I obviously dont ram the vac right down deep into the substrate though.

Thanks Dave I intend to target the Phosphate right away, as the variance was not too great. With regard to the Nitrate I will probably build up to it as my initial original reading was very low. I targeted 5ppm for dosage, but after first reading it was around 10ppm, so I will probably try to...

An update pic of the tank as at 11/02/07 : Started EI dosing today to see how things pan out. Plants are pearling like mad at the moment. :good:

As far as I am aware, I dont think pearling is only due to light. I initially ran my tank at 1.3 wpg, but with Co2, ferts and regular water changes the plants were pearling all the time. I now have nearer 2 wpg, but have not noticed a massive increase in pearling, which leads me to believe it is...

I've always understood that to avoid algae you should look to cover at least 80% of the footprint with plants. I have never heard to equating plants per gallon ? :blink:

I,ve ordered from Java before a couple of times without a problem. Normally they are in good condition. Does not sound like them? :unsure: I guess you were unlucky...keep trying to get in touch, I am sure they will respond. :good:

If you dont want to buy them online there are a lot of aquatic shops that sell them. If you go to the Tropica web site they have a list of re-sellers. :good: With regard to Aqua essentials, I have never ordered Tropica from there, but I have ordered substrate, and they are very professional...

From what I understand the heater cable creates a convection current with the temperature variance and draws warm water down into the substrate. I am not sure if sand will allow enough circulation of the current? The last time I looked into this I seem to remember that 2mm fine gravel was...

Well 3 full days in after adding the new substrate, and tested the water tonight. No blips at all I am pleased to report ! :hyper: The water is just as stable as before I added the Tropica. No spikes in nitrate or ammonia. So far so good - but only time will tell I suppose. :nod:

Hi Wiggle. Stand a piece of card or flexible plastic vertically in the bottom in the shape you want and place the different colour gravel either side of the divider. Then carefully slide out vertically. :good:

Yellowing or browning leaves on amazons normally indicate a difficiency in nutrients and probably Iron. Do you dose with Ferts? Adding root tabs as Dave said will help. I know it did with my gravel bed before I had a plant substrate. Try adding something like Seachem Floursh to see if it helps.

Well the new water 'white mist' has cleared today and tank back to crystal clear.
