Hi, basically I am stuck on substrates for my 25 gallon tank (with 50w of lighting) and I may go EI, although I am not sure atm. Does anyone have any pros/cons for tropica substrate or tetras? I really dont know which brand to trust (and my friend calls tetra 'retard substrate' for some reason lol)

thanks

I've heard very good things about both, but if it were me I'd get the tropica one, its not very expensive and tropica are the best growers of aquarium plants there is, their other products are bound to be as good (the plant nutrition range certainly is).

To add another option, JBL AquaBasis Plus seems to work very well for me, even in a low light tank, goes under gravel/sand like the Tetra product does.

I used the tetra one for my low-tech planted tank and it's pretty good. I haven't tried the Tropica one though.
