    Tank Mates For Firemouth's

There are no other fish you can safely put in that size tank with a pair of firemouths. Smaller spaces will restrict growth, increase the likelihood of disease and result in much more injury and death from fighting. Also, if you happen to get a pair of male firemouths in a 120 liter, one of...

    Pointed-tailed Guppy Fry

I didn't realize it until the last few times. My 11 year old daughter noticed the "pointy tails." Since then, I have seen it every time I have had fry with my fancy tails.

    Looking For Ammonia Source

Do you have a product by SeaChem called "BioSpira" available where you are? This makes cycling unnecessary and I have had GREAT success with it. You can also order it online at http://www.ashbyaquatics.com/index.asp?Pag...WPROD&ProdID=45

    Parrot Fish

If it is a blood parrot (severum/red devil) they are quite timid as far as cichlids go. I have kept them with blue acarras, chocolate cichlids, severums and firemouths. If it is a jellybean parrot (they are a convict hybrid), they tend to be much more aggressive. I have not kept these so I...

    New Rams

It would be best to put four females with your male. When you see one female and the male bond, remove the other females. You will notice the male and one of the females stay close and the rest will appear to be outcasts. When they have bonded, you can strengthen that bond by not removing the...

    New Rams

It was their first spawn which hardly ever goes well. For some reason, the first spawn of rams is almost always bad. I left all the eggs in the tank to strengthen their bond I use a DIY co2 injection system.

    "personality" Fish

The Blood Parrot (severum/red devil) has an awesome personality. Do a Google and look at all the sites dedicated to that one fish.

    Decoy/dither Fish..

I use Otos for dithers. They are fast and good at hiding if needed. Plus, they will not eat fry so you can leave them in after spawning. One more good benefit (for you)...they are cheap. So, if your rainbows do catch up you will not be out a lot of money.

    New Rams

Sorry for not specifying where to get the water and yes the rock is for the eggs (see pic below..that peice is less then 1/16" thick). Plants don't really matter. Check nitrAtes DAILY. If they go above 5ppm do a water change. Rams are super sensitive to nitrates. The plants should keep them...

    Can't Find Bolivian Rams!

Most stores know nothing about the proper ph conditions for their fish. I have 1 55g community tank with a ph of 7.5 that I keep blue and gold rams in. They do fine as long as you keep your nitrates below 10ppm. If you let your nitrates drift up they will die. They will not spawn under these...

    Raising Baby Rams

It is common for ram eggs to get fungus. The parents will probably eat the fingused eggs. If it gets too bad they will eat them all. Don't worry, they will spawn again in about 2 weeks. Next time, add methayline blue as soon as you see they have spawned. "Maroxy" by Mardel will also work...

    Cycling Going Well?

YOu will have a hard time keeping your nitrAte at 0. When your nitrIte is at 0 you can go to once a week. Depending on the fish, your nitrates can stay anywhere between 5 and 40ppm.

Why Is My Tank So Darn Cloudy?

If it is green then you have algae bloom which you can fix with a UV sterlizer without having to move your tank. Otherwise you will need to get the tank out of the direct sunlight. If it is milky, you have bacteria bloom which can be the result of different things but is usually due to the...

    New Rams

OK...If you want your rams to be REALLY happy, find a store that sells "Glacier" water. It comes in a big machine and you fill the bottles yourself. It is very soft and has a ph of 6.0. Mix this water with your tap water to get the ph you desire. The ph will not fluctuate because your tap...

Moving Home & Transporting Fish - Advice Needed

Can you drain all but 1" of the water and move the tank without breaking it down? As for the fish, put them in a 5 gallon bucket. They will be fine for a while. About every hour, scoop out water (small bowl) and pour back in from about 2 feet high (several times) to keep aerated.

    Help

It sounds ad if your fish are infected with the protozoan Myxospora. This causes whirling disease which is incurable and fatal. I'm sorry for your loss. However, DO NOT add anymore fish. You need to quarantine the danios. Your tank then needs to be broken down and sterilized.

    Help !

Two things...first, neons do not do well in a tank that is not VERY well established. Second, your PH is waaayyyy to high for neons. Neons like acidic (below 7.0) water. With a ph of 8.5, you might want some consider african cichlids. I have no experince with africans other than I know they...

Which Bacteria Supplement And Water Conditioner Do You Use?

If your tank is cycled, you do not need to add anything to supplement the bio process unless you are adding a large number of fish at one time. Cycle, by the way, is garbage IMO. "Stability" by Seachem is a great product. Prime is very good for conditioning. It removes chlorine and...

Might want to reconsider the Plecos. They will get too large for your 39 and are heavy waste producers. If you are looking for something to eat left over food and algae, go with corys (food) and otos (algae).
