    Help Identifying A Fish

This is a bit embarrassing, but I bought a pair of fish around a year ago and I've realised that I've forgotten what exactly they are and was hoping someone may be able to help me work it out. They were recommended for eating snails and they're around an inch and a half, very long and thin with...

Solution To Overstocked Tank - Advice Please

I've had the tank for around 3 years and regularly do the 10% water changes and add Nutrafin Cycle, TetraAqua Easy Balance and Stress Coat. I have a Fluval 104 external filter as a couple of smaller fish got trapped and died behind my internal filters (I tried two), so it should be ok. I'm...

    Quick Query

Would anyone here know if a betta would live fairly peaceably with three pitbull plecs? They're really small and likely to stay that way... Thanks!

Solution To Overstocked Tank - Advice Please

I've just discovered, following bad advice from my local aquarium shop, that my 30 litre tank is overstocked. I've been sold 4 female guppies (I think at least one of which is pregnant, judging from the gravid spot), 2 male guppies (there were already two in there, so I had four in total), 3...

    Overstocked Tank?

I read on here in another thread that guppies, as schooling fish, shouldn't be in a tank as small as 30 litres, that they need at least ten gallons. Do you think if I took all of them back except for one pitbull plec and got a betta instead, that would be ok? Would a betta attack a little plec?

    Overstocked Tank?

Hi both, Thanks, I'll try the water change. Regarding the plecs, thanks for the list - it's the pitbull plecs that I've got (sorry, couldn't quite remember the name). I'll return them and the clown loach tomorrow and keep my fingers crossed. Cheers

    Fish Dying - Please Help!

Hi I've reposted my thread having looked at some other threads about mysterious fish deaths on here. Thanks for your advice here - I think you're right about my tank not being big enough. Cheers

    Overstocked Tank?

Hi, I’m really in a panic. I went recently to my local aquarium shop (a Maidenhead Aquatics) as they agreed to take in my pleccy that I bought a couple of years ago from Pets at Home, who typically never advised me as a new owner that they would grow so much. They seemed to know what they were...

    Fish Dying - Please Help!

Hi, I’m really in a panic – I’ve had just had some new fish in my tank (30 litres) to build it up a bit – 3 clown loaches (purchased at the advice of the aquarium shop to get rid of some snails that turned up on a plant), 4 female guppies and 2 male guppies. They joined the 2 male guppies who...

X-ray Tetra Has Developed A Dark Spot

I've only got those Tetratest strips that you dip into the water - they don't give an exact reading, but from what I can see the nitrate is way too high, nitrite normal, water hardness a bit on the high side, but nothing drastic, ph value 7.6 and carbonate hardness normal. I use StressCoat...

X-ray Tetra Has Developed A Dark Spot

Hi One of my x-ray tetras has developed an odd dark spot inside at the bottom of its belly. I haven't added any new fish recently, I do 25% water changes every month, it shares the tank with 3 other tetras, 5 guppies and a pleccy. Any ideas what this is? Could it be internal injury or...

    Filter Recommendation

Thanks. I see that you use a fluval in your tank. Are they reliable? And I include suction suckiness in that! Cheers

    Filter Recommendation

Hi all, I have a 30 litre fishtank, so quite small, and bought an Elite Stingray 5 for it some time ago. However, the suction cups no longer work and it's recently started to float free. Obviously this isn't good news for my smaller fish, one of which got sucked behind it and died today. Can...

Blue Gourami Dying? - Please Help

Thanks for that. I don't have any shelled peas at home, I'll buy some tomorrow. To be honest, though, it doesn't look as if he'll last that long. It's really horrible. Thanks for the help and the tip re. the gravel vacuuming.

    What's Wrong With Our Betta?

Just having read that, I also bought a betta from Pets at Home that died within a couple of weeks. In fact, at first I bought quite a few fish from them that died. Having now gone to a proper tropical fish shop, I've been told that the quality of the fish is probably not great from Pets at Home...

Blue Gourami Dying? - Please Help

Hi I just got home and noticed that one of my blue gouramis is sick. I can't see anything physically wrong with it, except that it struggles to maintain buoyancy and keeps sinking to the bottom of the tank and lying there. There is one other blue gourami in the tank and it seems fine. They're...

    Jumping Pleccy

Yes, it's pretty regular. Thanks for the advice - I'll buy some of those oxygen tablets for my tank.

    Jumping Pleccy

This may sound odd, but my pleccy has taken to darting up to the top of the tank really fast, breaking the surface and then darting back down again... is this normal?
