Sometimes putting a coarse sponge over the outflow can help reduce the turbulence. I like to use Aquaclear sponges for this.

Many of my cories have white "bumps" on their noses. I always assumed it was either normal, or they were hitting the tank lid when shooting to the top for air sometimes. Either way, it hasn't seemed to affect mine.

I have a similar setup. I have about 12 tiger barbs, with 4 cory cats, and two rubbernose pleco's. Durbkat is correct that with larger groups, the tigers tend to stay busy among themselves and not bother the other fish.
