    Recommend plants?

Hi! I haven't worked on this scape in just over half a year, so, I forgot which plants I planned on using.. Any advice or suggestions? I'm using ADA Amazonia coupled with ADA PowerSand and plan to put Neon Dwarf Tetras in my tank. Currently, not planning on adding wood to the tank, but it's...

Gardens of the River - Aquascape - 30GAL

I actually just used ADA Amazonia "Powder" version instead of the full size granules coupled with the ADA Power Sand underneath it to add more nutrients. I'm not sure if it will work out great, but I saw a few people saying it wouldn't damage the aquarium. For the lights, I hooked them on with...

Gardens of the River - Aquascape - 30GAL

Thank you! It's not that hard to vacuum the substrate to get rid of excess detritus, but once I plant the aquarium I shouldn't really have to worry about that much. But if you're asking if the vacuum will suck up the granules, no, it won't. :#

Gardens of the River - Aquascape - 30GAL

Here's my current scape, I have filled it up with water, and have been cycling it for months now. The rocks haven't changed in position much, and I have yet for the plants to come. I got the lighting situation figured out and the filter setup. I would be open to any plant suggestions; it's been...

    Hi, I'm back!

Thanks ! No I don't own the boesmani in my picture, I wish! It's just my favorite fish haha. I currently don't have any active aquariums besides a betta fish so :dunno:

    Hi, I'm back!

I'm not sure if any of you guys remember me, but i'm back to the forum! I had some things with school, and I finally remembered what this forum was called. I ended up neglecting my tank project for about 6 months, so I ended up recovering it today and yesterday.. I'll be sure to update my...

My point was modifying and adding acrylic sheets and such would be an issue, and it's less customizable. But I'll be sure to shoot you a message if I'm interested!

    Alga under gravel removal

Why would there be algae under the substrate? Is it because aerobic respiration is taking place, giving them a better supply of oxygen? Then again, the chloroplasts would not be able to harness the light unless it was a very thin layer of substrate, correct? Is it just because of light...

Just do what you want. I was just trying to look out for the best interest of adding more fish in the future; with Corydoras Melini it limits what you can add a lot. Alot easier to goto the store and trade them in for Pandas. That's my two cents.

1 - What are your water parameters? 2 - What plants do you have in there? 3 - Can you upload a picture ? Cheers, Hyr.

I'm not going to directly quote your post, as it generally confuses me and makes my response unorganized. Besides this: So, I am going to compile every issue and finally, what I think you should do with your tank. I do suggest you take my advice however. It is a pain in the butt, but you...

Oh. I apologize. I for some reason never got the notification for that post..Hmm..weird. Anyway; my bad. Currently it's really early in the morning (I can't sleep), but I'll be sure to actually use those parameters to respond and conclude on what you should most likely want to do.

I mean I d Although @Byron thinks otherwise, I really think you should move the Melini's out. It's greatly limiting what parameters you can even have, which you have yet to state. For all I know, you may have to move half the tank to a new tank. Please post the parameters, then we'll talk...

Tank builder, new here...don't be a square be a cylinder

Actually, after further research, I am interested in purchasing one..One downside is, I do a lot of DIY stuff, like the cheapskate that I am, and I could find that hard in a cylindrical form factor. So, ya know, I am inclined to bookmark it, and I'll possibly take a look in the future...

Indeed. Don't get to ahead of yourself, you might trip and fall. I'd recommend just setting up a 10 gallon for now, move the fish that need to be moved into there. Then, spend time planning out the 55. Fix your problems, then work on something new. Don't work on something new (that could...

    Stocking Issue!

I think the first step is to divide them one way or another. If you can afford a 30 gallon tank, buy one of those and put the gbrs in there. You can use filter media from your current tank and borrow some substrate and hopefully that will "cycle" the tank. If you can't do that, go to Lowes or...

Covering tank no benefit if in sunlight is this true?

If you have to, tint the windows (or wherever you're getting the incoming light from). You can also purchase cheap mat and apply a cheap adhesive to the window and stick it on. And plop, your light issue is fixed.

You can always consider buying higher quality sand, like CaribSea Aragonite. Although it is meant for salt water, it will greatly buffer your hardness and pH, and it has great surface area for beneficial bacteria. I would not recommend this however if your water parameters are higher than what...

It just needs a larger piece of driftwood; nothing excessive.

Now, not ignoring water parameters, these are the ideal parameters for your tank: Temp: 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit, 22-23 Celsius. pH: Should be 6.0! No lower or higher! Melini Corydoras need 4.0-6.5pH, while the rest of your fishies need higher. Hardness: Again, Corydoras Melini is not...

Tankmate suggestions. New to TFF and (kind of) new to the hobby.

Ignoring water parameters, there is ALOT WRONG with your tank: Tetras are schooling fish, each individual species need groups of 8-10. Bristlenose Plecostomous needs driftwood, not a bare-bottom tank. There should be at least 6 Rosy Barbs in a group. There should be at least 4 Julii Corydoras...

    Mystery cichlid

I actually am pretty sure it's Amatitlania nigrofasciata, a Convict Cichlid. It's one of the only cichlids that boasts stripes like that that I know of, besides Aulonocara maylandi, the Sulferhead Aulonocara, which shows off a bright yellow head, which yours does not appear to have. EDIT: If it...

Thanks for the input. I might just opt to only have rainbowfish; they're very pretty and I like them alot. I personally didn't add parameters because I was pretty set on what fish I want, but here they are: pH: 7.3 kH: 3.1 The thing about the hardness is, it will definitly increase. I'm not...

Hi, I thought I might start an aquarium journal here. Yes, I know, this isn't necessarily an aquascaping forum, but, this forum has the most kind, helpful, wholehearted people, and I want to share with them something that they helped me work so hard on. This is my first aquarium over 10gal too...

    CO2 system

    1) Byron was talking about water chemistry, and how different factors, including co2, effect it. I'll let him explain on that one; I don't quite understand it well enough to tell someone confidently. 2) It matters alot; you can kill your fish by having incorrect mineral content. In my opinion...

    CO2 system

Soft water means low mineral content in the water, hard means lots of minerals in the water. Flint, Michigan would have extremely hard water riddled with lead. Different fish need different levels of mineral content; guppies are particularly happy in harder water, where as tetras, are kind of on...

    Okay! Final Stocking! Any errors?

Yeah, I've been using seriouslyfish ever since it was recommended to me. One question they don't cover that I have is-- do they like high flow or low flow, or do they not care? I've read that they live in rivers and lakes in Indonesia, but mostly rivers. Are these rivers high flow? Low flow...

    Okay! Final Stocking! Any errors?

Yes, I understand. I meant excessive algae, like an outbreak or something. That's what I thought originally, it should be able to handle the ammonia spike, if there even is one. Yeah, I thought that might help with hierarchy issues. Do you think I can keep 8 neon rainbows in a 10 gallon for 2...

    Okay! Final Stocking! Any errors?

I don't think so. With planted tanks you can't gravel vac, be aggresive with algae, change the substrate, etc.. Not to say they aren't good, they just aren't particularly clean if you think about it. I was planning to qt 4 rainbows inside my 10 gallon, then the other 4, then 5 espei rasboras...

    CO2 system

I haven't personally ever used one, but for my 30 gallon I originally considered on using the AquaTek mini co2 valve and a paintball tank for just over 100$ in price. I've since decided not to do co2 at all; if a leak or error happens, I don't want my fish to die.
