Thank you! It's not that hard to vacuum the substrate to get rid of excess detritus, but once I plant the aquarium I shouldn't really have to worry about that much. But if you're asking if the vacuum will suck up the granules, no, it won't. :#

Why would there be algae under the substrate? Is it because aerobic respiration is taking place, giving them a better supply of oxygen? Then again, the chloroplasts would not be able to harness the light unless it was a very thin layer of substrate, correct? Is it just because of light...

Just do what you want. I was just trying to look out for the best interest of adding more fish in the future; with Corydoras Melini it limits what you can add a lot. Alot easier to goto the store and trade them in for Pandas. That's my two cents.

I don't think so. With planted tanks you can't gravel vac, be aggresive with algae, change the substrate, etc.. Not to say they aren't good, they just aren't particularly clean if you think about it. I was planning to qt 4 rainbows inside my 10 gallon, then the other 4, then 5 espei rasboras...

I haven't personally ever used one, but for my 30 gallon I originally considered on using the AquaTek mini co2 valve and a paintball tank for just over 100$ in price. I've since decided not to do co2 at all; if a leak or error happens, I don't want my fish to die.
