Mr. Miagi, The tank has been setup since Oct 26, 2005. So roughly 3 months. I am adding in 2 more frags of zoanthids but that will be it for the tank. FK2, yep sometimes it amazes me what you can keep in these tanks. The nice thing is frags look like colonies in such a small volume :) ...

Clean Up Crew.....how Many And What?

Now, Now steelie! :) Hermits do have their place and niche in the tank :) . I do agree with scarlets but also zebra or Hawaiian hermits are also good. They stay small and don't seem to be as agressive as the electric blues. Ice Maiden, the reason people don't like hermits is because if you...

My Nano Diary......for A Real Beginner!

IceMaiden, Very nice looking rock... looks like lalo rock to me. If the starfish you saw is a micro brittle star.. you will have more if you see 1.. LOL I put 2 in my 25 gallon from my 24gallon NC.. I have over 100 now that I see all the time which means I have many many more I don't /can't...

well ben, I saw 1 whole pic of your tank. None of these new pics are coming thru for me here. I will try at home. I do want to know what you call the Pussey coral though. Can you send me a link for that pic in a PM? or just post it again... thanks, TB

Finally took a picture of the PICO at work. Here it is updated. Notice the purpleish/green mushrooms up front the lower right one is splitting. He completed it this weekend. :) I think it looks pretty good especially with only 18 watts of pc light.

    Stocking For 6gallon Jbj Nano

A-I-B, Listen to Steelhealr here.... Scratch the Perc and go with the Goby. You could put 2 neon gobies in the tank successfully or maybe 2 clown gobies if started off small together you should be ok... I know I had 1 yellow and 1 green and they did not get along together PERIOD! Yellow boy...

    Dividing Corals And Sweeper Tentacles

awww thanks Steelie  I just selected corals that fit where I wanted something to go. Now if I could only get the colors... :) I have become attached to my finger leather but unfortuneately the coral is white/very light pink... was sold to me as neon green which it was for maybe 3...

    Sf05's Slow And Steady

Dan, I REALLY like the 2nd layout of your aquascaping. It looks like you took your time and came up with a great scape. I agree 100% with SH the Peak on one end and the caves on the other make a big difference, the 1st scape you had was (well, like a pile of rocks ;) This shows some real...

    Nano Cube Stand

WELCOME H2OLovr! I have the "S" stand (Neo Classic artsy looking stand). If you have the traditional type with the 2 metal poles in the front, I know it's sturdy. I have seen several setup but NONE with the wheels. The "S" stand doesn't come with them at all. I think you would be OK for...

Depends on who you ask. Depth of sand is a good thing for denitrification granted surface area is not great but it will still occur. Asthetically I like a bit thinner bed but with only 18watts of PC light, I wanted to get the rocks and bottom dwellers up a bit more. And no one at work knows...

CF_, The xenia is Elongata species. Very Very Very, did I say Very? Very Prolific xenia IME!!!! :hyper: The coral at the bottom with the purple tips is a Helio Fungia (Long Extra long tentacle Plate coral) a very good LPS coral and easy to care for and it looks like an anemone but...

Do You Have Or Plan To Have A Nano Reef Tank?

and also, I needed to add, I have a Pico tank on my desk here at work. :( Can't believe I forgot it.. LOL I will have to post pics of it. Well, as soon as I get some new ones. I only have the initial setup pics which I will post in the PICS thread. Don't want to get off topic with pics.

That should be enough flow for the hydorflo to rotate. It will not rotate as fast but it should still move. Slow rotation is my indication of something amiss, as I see the rotation slow on either of my hydor flos. Quick PH cleaning and hydor flo gets taken apart and cleaned and reassembled...

    Sf05's Slow And Steady

Dan, I like several different gobies, The Yasha haze is nice and you can pair it off with a pistol shrimp, the sleeper gobies are pretty cool as well as any Hi-Fin gobies like the yasha haze.... There are serveral different Blennies that make cool tank mates too. Bi-colour blenny is purpleish...

    Nanocube

Nate, Steelhealr is right, read the threads he referred to. In the mean time, I think you better be prepared for costs. I have the 24Gallon NanoCube DX and I did upgrade the lights and added a PH and 2 hydorflo's. With what I have invested in tank, upgrades, rock, livesand, corals and...

    Sf05's Slow And Steady

Definitely NOT ANY DRAGONETS (Mandarins, Scotter Blenny). The water or tank size is not the factor it's the Live Rock Quanitity and quality and the amount of copepods they can produce for the dragonets taht are important. You can sometimes buy manarins or scooters that eat frozen or prepared...

    Dividing Corals And Sweeper Tentacles

I have the heliofungia Long tentacle plate coral. They are fun to watch eating. I give it it's own 1/2 cube of mysis about once every 2 weeks. the rest of the time it collects food while I am feeding the fish and other corals. It does the simlar move of handing off food from the outer legs...

    Nitrates...ahhhhhh

I Agree with SH here about the age of the tank, and feeding that Gorg... That is why I was inquiring about the food you are using too. If your food has nitrates/phosphates in it and you add A LOT of food for the tank then you are introducing what we strive to keep out, in major doses... DT's...

Do You Have Or Plan To Have A Nano Reef Tank?

Yea!!!!! I am the 1st vote with I have more than 1 Nano Reef :-P Wasn't supposed to be that way.. I started with 1 NC 24DX and then added a 2nd 25G AGA as a "frag" tank... so much for that, it too is a full blown nano-reef now :). Later, TB

My Nano Diary......for A Real Beginner!

IceMaiden, Definitely remove the ceramics. I would remove the carbon and let it dry out for when you will want to clear the water of the organics... usually this is after the cycle is complete. Some say using carbon extends the cycle time. I have always just cycled my tanks w/ liverock and...

SH, he has the hydorflo on the stock pump in the 1st chamber, the locline split is for the MJ1200 in the 3rd chamber. (I think I read that right)... I think he is questioning which pump to leave more than the return... at least that is what I got out of his question. I would leave the...

My Nano Diary......for A Real Beginner!

I agree 100% with SH on this issue of ceramics. We all take them out. If you have the Nano-Cube from JBJ the instruction sheet (hardly very informative), on it states- if you are going to use the tank as a reef tank then remove sponges, bioballs, and ceramic rings. Only use the carbon. I...

Trying Out The Movie Mode On My Camera

Mr. Miagi32, The sixline I guess it's about 4-5 months old (isn't that right SH? didn't we get them around the same time?). I don't know the age of the 6er but he's grown maybe 1/8" or so but not much. I haven't seen any 6lines much bigger than mine, in tanks around town here, and he's the...

    Nano Temps

Hey Crazyelece, While I do agree with SH on the flow not being bad, I do know there are problems with heat in the 12Gal DX and using a MJ 1200. The problem is the watts used are extremely high as per many posters on another NanoReef forum. (remember that discussion thread Steelie?). Anyway...

    Nitrates...ahhhhhh

Kenny, I see your bioload and all is not too bad. What do you feed your corals and fish and how much and how often? sometimes what we use to feed with has higher phosphates and nitrates than a different brand or even type of food. I do know most of the phyto products that are not (*live*)...

    Nano Temps

What brand nano? JBJ, Current, AGA? The reason I ask is, if it's a stock JBJ NC12 DX or 24DX then the pump is probably the culprit. If you are doing a dry run(w/out fish or corals), unplug the pump. let it sit with the lights and heater on and see what the temps go to. If they stay lower...

SF05, I'm glad to see you taking your time with this endeavour. Yes it will be worth it believe me. I do like your light fixture, it will allow you to keep just about anything in there. SPS may be a bit difficult like Acropora's but as long as they are at the top level of the tank you should...

My Nano Diary......for A Real Beginner!

IceMaiden, Welcome to the addiction! As SH has forewarned, be patient. Don't buy ANYTHING without research first. Never trust the LFS. If you don't know anything about a coral or fish don't buy it until you know for certain what it is, what it's requirements are and how big it will get...
