It is definitely not the gravel. The tank has been going for about 2 months now. I am going to try more frequent water changes: I usually do a 25% change once a week. Here is what I need to know: What is the ideal/safe amount of water to change and how often (without stressing my fish)...

Yes, I washed the gravel very well before I put it in. I have cut my feedings back lately also...no direct sunlight.... :/

I am babysitting Phish, my girlfriend's betta. He has developed a white bubble/lump looking thing on just under his mouth on his jaw. Any idea what this is and how do I treat it?

Thanks all!! I tried the oto's...however, I don't think this tank is mature enough (4-5 weeks)...they both died. :sad: Water params were fine.

That is unfortunate. I have used it and it worked exactly as described. I have found that the stores that have told me the same thing had never used it; they just assumed it didn't work. Also, I have found that many stores don't like dealing with products that have to stay refrigerated (just...

I used Bio-Spira on my new 20 gallon. It worked overnight--just some Bio-Spira and five Tiger Barbs (now 8 and 3 cories). I got 3oz for 24.95 here in the Atlanta area. :thumbs:

For the most part...any spikes were VERY minor. The only place I could find it was at Petland..one of the chain stores here in the Atanta area.

I paid 24.95 for 3 oz. of Bio-Spira....it works as described: overnight. I was pleased!!

My intentions were to seperate batches, however, if this is overkill, I will forgo the divider and let them all congregate. :thumbs: Thanks for all the help!

Ok...how about this: 10 gallon with aqua clear or bio-wheel filter (I have a bio-wheel on my new 20 gallon and it is working quite nicely) with no substrate and a divider so I can have an area for the newborns. Any comments?

I currently have my adults in a 10 gallon that is heavily planted. I currently don't have a seperate tank for the offspring to grow out in. I usually give the babies away when they are big enough. However, I would like to have a place for them to grow until I give them away. Just curious...

It is a 20gallon tall tank. I am not sure of the exact length..roughly 2 feet I guess (I am not at home and can't measure). I don't have any other fish in right now.

Ok. The saga has come to a close. :/ I found the poor fellow 12 FEET!! away from the tank under another piece of furniture. Needless to say, he was not alive and I have properly laid him to rest. Thanks for all the posts of help!

Just wanted to rant to the world for a sec. Seems when I woke up this morning that overnight my dojo broke into the breeder hotel and ate the occupants; all 17 of my week old fry! I was furious. I literally wanted to flush him down toilet, then I came to my senses. :no:
