    Quick Plant Question

As said, pour boiling water over it, scrub it with an old toothbrush or similar then put it in. Should be fine, always done this with Wood and rocks and not had a problem. Could leave it soaking for a day or 2 if you really wanted though, wouldn't do much harm. :good:

Banks Of The Rio De La Palma

Banks Of The Rio De La Palma

What size tank is this one again? Need to decide on numbers for my Rio 125.
  9. N

Banks Of The Rio De La Palma

Thats that decided.... I'm getting a shoal of Embers! Need to shift my White Clouds to make way for some I think. How many did you get in the end mate?

    Plant Growth!

I have no experience in any of those so I can't comment   Im sure someone will be along to help you out :good:

    Plant Growth!

Sounds like you'll be fine growing plants, what types are you looking to grow? That's a big factor on if they will grow or not aswell as the lighting etc. Write a list of what you wanna grow and I'm sure someone will be able to confirm if you'll be capable of it, sounds like your setup is good...

    Low Tech Rio 180

Indeed, my LFS charge around £2.95 each!! I'd go Ember Tetra, but I'm biased as I really want a shoal of my own :shifty:
  13. N

    Low Tech Rio 180

CPD's are really little fish, would need quite a few I reckon to make a noticeable shoal in a Rio 180. Very nice fish though. I usually just walk around my LFS's until something catches my eye, then research it on my phone and go from there. Probably not the best way of going about things but...

    Low Tech Rio 180

I found Harlequins to be great shoaling fish, look really nice in planted tanks too. Considering Ember Tetras next though, Steve has just got a shoal and really likes them so that's another idea? There's so many choices for shoals, Neons/Cardinals, Harlequins, Various Tetras (just nothing nippy...

    What Fish Is This Please

They do like a good nip on fins, they ruined a few of my other fish's fins when I first got into fish keeping. They got taken straight back to the LFS lol

    In Two Minds, Led Help?

Ah mate that sucks about the loss, I was gutted that one of my low grade cherries got stuck in my filter let alone a CRS! Embers are a good choice, will be my next shoal that I purchase for the main tank,

    In Two Minds, Led Help?

I got an idea of what I wanna do with mine, my dad's old wallpaper pasting table is being butchered to make my hood lol Bet that was a gutter mate, all that waiting and they weren't what you ordered :( What did you decide on in the end for stocking?
  19. N

    In Two Minds, Led Help?

Should look cool mate, hoping to order my stuff this week once I build a hood to house everything in. :D

    In Two Minds, Led Help?

Ah I'll get some 45's then, still doesn't help with whether you need 6 or 8 though so sorry for the hijack lol Cheers though

    Quick Plant Question

Should be plenty for your tank, all very easy plants to care for so a good introduction into the Green side :D
  22. N

    First Time Planter :)

Should work out well mate, aslong as the Java fern is tied to the wood it will grow pretty quickly. Searching for the right piece of wood is always fun, good luck :D
  23. N

    First Time Planter :)

If you want the large leafy type plant then Java Fern (tied to wood/stone) or Amazon swords will be ok. Grassy plants like you have already could be Sagittaria Subulata, Vallis (more background plant though), or Echinodorus Tennelus are the same leaf style as the non-aquatic stuff you have.

    In Two Minds, Led Help?

Found 10 120 degree ones for £3.99, would they be ok? And I may be being a bit dumb but how do they attatch onto the LED's themselves, I'm using the "star" type LED if that makes any difference?
  25. N

    First Time Planter :)

Also the ones with the white banding on the leaves are non-aquatics too mate, grab them out and stick them in a pot on your window sill. They are Dracanea plants :)

    A Nano Garden

Haha yeah, mine can stretch from one side of the tank to the other in about 2 weeks or so? And thats a Rio 125, im sure you saw a picture of my main tank in my shrimp journal? The ludwigia is on the right (sorta pinky because my lighting sucks lol) I cut that about a week before that picture was...

    A Nano Garden

I have a heap of that Ludwigia in my tank and it's by no means slow growing and thats just with liquid CO2 and EI ferts, stuff grows like a weed!

    In Two Minds, Led Help?

I haven't ordered anything yet, wanted to make sure I have everything before getting my order in. I've got 1W LED's like SBS used, heatsinks for each, thermal paste, driver and power adapter on my list but thought maybe the plexiglass condensation tray I was gonna make would stop moisture from...

    New Plant Baby On Stem?

    Quick Plant Question

If you go to the Tropica website they have all the pictures of plants with the names under them which will make ID'ing easier for you. It's no problem that you haven't started, I don't know if places like Aqua Essentials etc deliver to the US, but basically just need some Liquid CO2 like...

    In Two Minds, Led Help?

Where do I get the lenses from mate? Gonna just be using LED's because I'm just using an old worn out tube from my other tank at the moment
  33. N

    In Two Minds, Led Help?

Whats the tank dimensions? Sounds like I may need a rethink about my setup too if thats the case, I'll be mounting them to the hood (1 in each corner) then using a perspex condensation tray so I don't need to make individual LED covers. May experience the uneven spread your talking about?

    Quick Plant Question

Most stem plants are beginner friendly so things like Ludwigia, Rotala, Bacopa, Hygrophilia, Wisteria, Elodea, Cabomba. Then there's things like Cryptocoryne (I'd go for the Wendtii range for beginners, nice and easy and look nice too!) Java ferns, Amazon swords, Vallis in some cases...

    In Two Minds, Led Help?

Im only going for 4 1W ones in my 2 footer and I thought that would be enough lol, 6 3W would be pretty bright and probably too many for such a small tank. If you've ordered them what about setting up with say 4 first and seeing how it goes, then add more if you think its needed?
  36. N

    Quick Plant Question

It did look a little different to my Sag but I wasn't too sure lol

    Quick Plant Question

Dracanea will survive in a pot of soil yeah, Grassy one does look a little like Sagittaria IMO. Just see how it goes when you plant it in the gravel, expect a little rot but if it dies off rapidly I'd remove it ASAP.
  39. N

Banks Of The Rio De La Palma

Considering a small Ember shoal for my shrimp tank but I planned to have no fish in there at all, LFS sell them for 75p each though so it's a maybe, they do look great in a group! Shrimp are always easy to sell on the young too, Cichlids not so much?
  40. N

    Quick Plant Question

Yeah 90% of LFS's will sell the Dracanea plants as aquatic and so many people end up with then in their tanks, will look nice in your window though lol. The other 2 are ok providing the grassy one is aquatic, looks like Sagittaria but can't be sure from that picture :good:
