When Can A New Member Access The Chat Room?

I see that most of you already answered the question! Like every one said, the chat function is simply a small addon that you can try to use if you have an urgency or something like it.. I really prefer posting on the forums tho as   1. It helps anyone out there who needs help. 2. More people...

Allowing Plants To "rot" In Tank?

Algea doesnt really scare me really.. My amano and snails + danios would be really happy to eat it if it ever appeared.. I like what you said about giving my right of being natural by encapsuling in a glass box.. I'll think about this.

    Another Wipe Out... :-(

I'm with rms on feeding often but small quantities. I have some tetras that are eating all leaving the other tetras without food..

yeah.. exploded tummy is quite strange indeed... One lesson I learned quickly; dont trust all your lfs tells you.

Allowing Plants To "rot" In Tank?

Yeah it does make sense because they focus on getting the leaves back on track instead of growing normally. Maybe I could cut the leaves and let them in the tank to decay.

    Another Wipe Out... :-(

I agree with the clown loach, if they were smaller I'd have a few of them myself, they amaze me.   Cloudy water might indicate bacteria bloom.. It's such a shame you had to go through this!   :|   Yes bacteria can survive for quite a while without ammonia or else but they will go "dormant" if...

Allowing Plants To "rot" In Tank?

Oh I have CPDs, I'm wondering if they'd do fine in Tannin water, I read that they don't have any at their locations.. :|

    Think I've Messed Up...

LFS are notorious in misidentifying fish. Everytime I buy fish from them, I am really scared in getting the wrong stuff.

Greetings From Iowa. Hope I Am Doing This Right.

Hi and welcome! I am very impressed by your tanks, I like the idea you had of setting your water dragon with the tank under! I had a water dragon before, I really loved him!

    Another Wipe Out... :-(

So sad to see those dead fishes :(   I think that the media you used was without the bacteria. Without Ammonia to feed from, they most likely died, leaving you with an empty media.   This is my guess. I am very sorry for your loss.

New Set Up, Looking For A Betta

Most of the breeders are from Asia because they have been in the market for so long and know what and how to breed nice fish.   In Montreal I know of 2 breeders, which produce show quality fish. I have found them through classifieds, (kijiji). Maybe if you hunt on there! ;)

Allowing Plants To "rot" In Tank?

Oh that is a great suggestion! I don't know why I did not think of that..   Makes me wonder, how much does it affect water alkalinity?

    Best Led Lighting?

I'm using a 24" Current-USA satellite+ for my 20g tank and it's managed to grow everything in there, including some Green Cabomba.. It's good and cheap but I heard it only can grow up to "moderate" light plants. I must add that I dim the fixture just a bit.

Allowing Plants To "rot" In Tank?

It does make sense. I know that they are decaying fast because they are in a "low light" environment but didn't know about the roots not reaching the substrate. I also know that there is so much condensation in there (I have a lid on) that it drips on the lettuce, and water lettuce doesn't...

New Set Up, Looking For A Betta

Hi and welcome! You did some good research and I'm sure you'll find a Betta fish sooner or later! If you have the patience and ask your LFS when they usually receive their fish, you should go there on the same day. I got mine for 5$ and I'm really happy about him, he's beautiful and wouldn't...

Allowing Plants To "rot" In Tank?

Hi there! I just recently finished setting and stocking my 46 bowfront and I'm really proud of what I have achieved. Can't wait for plants to fill it up completely! I'm going for a heavily planted setup, low light, low tech as I have fish that thrive in low light setup.   Presently I'm stuck...

Discus Not Eating ( 3 Weeks Now )

I'm happy to hear you discuss is eating again. About the dead prawn, I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic but a prawn allowing to rot in your tank will cause ammonia, feeding bacteria that is needed for you aquarium. Are you familiar with the nitrogen cycle?

    Betta Has Clamped Fins

Update, Betta is still being treated, doing fine, eating normally, still has a minor part of his top fin clamped.   I don't really mind him in another tank since I have 3 berried shrimp, one of them has eyes in the eggs ! SOON!

    All My Fish Died!

I'm pretty sure that by removing your sponge, you also removed all of the beneficial bacteria that converted the ammonia an nitrite.   Your fish were poisoned. Carbon media doesn't serve a purpose but to clean the water from medication that was inside the water. If you can find your old sponge...

    Help-Goldfish!

Most goldfish produce a lot of waste. I have learned this the hard way and lost a few of them when I was a complete newbie. Fancy goldfish will require at least 20Gallon each, and other goldfish require ponds.   For a 10 gallon tank, you could get a few small fish. But as suggested, you should...
