i would only really attempt lilaeopsis with a substrate like ADA amazonia, lots of co2, lots of light, and lots of nutrients (ei method), also it will only grow in temps of 26 degrees c and below.

aaron means it will drop by 1 when it is at the optimal level for plants and fish, if it drops more the co2 levels may be getting to high for some types of fish, but i wouldnt be too worried about this with a diy setup.

why dont you just go external? UGF is really outdated and plants dont thrive in it, you will do much better with plants if you run internals/externals, also imo they are much less maintenance.

do you want to go for a stem plant or a grassy look in the corner? if stem plant id say rotala green or nanjenshan would suit the best, if you want a grassy look anything from dwarf sag (sound silly i know but it would grow to the surface in that tank) to lilaeopsis macloviana to crypt...

yes fish can die from excess c02, over 30ppm is harmful to fish, but you also cant harm fish with a diy co2 kit, i dont think your gonna be going over 30 ppm with that tank size and 2 diy kits.

looks more like fungal infection to me, doesnt really look like ich.

you need to mimic the movements of a dying fish, put it on a chopstick or something and wiggle it infront of the gar, if all else fails just feed live, then try dead untill it takes it.

are you using 4dkh water in your permenant co2 test? if not its very hard to get the co2 to an accurate level.

grass is deffo dwarf sag, you can hardly call it dwarf tho as mine got to 12" tall.

id say dont buy the profi 1 and go for the diy FE setup, you wont regret it and in the long run its gonna cost you LOADS less than buying those 500G refills.

id say the highest quality fish food is not a dry one, either frozen or live is best, i do vary a lot i feed nutrafin max complete flake (which is vitamin enriched) sera microgran granulated food, which is the perfect size for my smaller fish, i also feed algae wafers for the cory's and oto's...

well how else are the plants going to get nutrients without root feeding? Lldjma keeps her plants in plain pea gravel with water column dosing and they thrive, basically you can do it but a nutrient rich substrate is a good fallback if you miss out a dosing, or if you want to grow very difficult...

nutrafin max complete flake is a very good flake, id also recommend sera flake, also hikari do very good dry foods.

how big is the plec, if stocking allows it, id increase to a group of atleast 6 or more that will damp the agression right down, they are only picking on eachother because the group isnt big enough.

id say move the rocks closer together, rearrange the hardscape, the planting looks good as is apart from the big gaps betweeen the rocks, once they are closer move the pogostemon inbetween the larger rocks and the small rocks, keep the stems at the back. ;) my critique lol

mbuna cichlids and silver dollars are known to ravage plants, SD especially.

you can bury them in the gravel or not, its up to you just plop em in make sure the top part (usually the part with a few tiny stems and leaves) is facing upwards, they will soon grow out and send some lily's to the surface.

you just wave the gravel vac around the plants and substrate not digging into it at all, and you vac up what gets disturbed, and your plants dont get uprooted.

i think that refers to the fact that eco complete converts fish waste and rotting matter into new nutrients for the substrate, if you cap it it will just act as a dormant nutrient rich base layer.

the lily pads on those bulbs will get stems a lottt longer than 6 inches, but they do provide good cover, scientific names are nymphea stellata and nymphea zenkeri search them on google images, other good bulb based plants are aponogetons, search for aponogeton crispus or bolivianus.
