Good to hear that your tank has stabilised! My frogbit fights against a current (albeit mild) and a bunch of root-trimming Ilyodons that take them back to about 2-3cm from the leaf, but they battle on, so I'm betting on LED light...but then my bets rarely come in!

do look online on gumtree, ebay, aquarists classified first - you might get lucky and save loads of money!

If you wanted you could always give the inlet pipe a coat of black emulsion followed by a coat of G4 Pond Sealer? It has worked well on my painted stuff in the cemetary tank with no apparent fishy side-effects....

your hardware all blends in really well...except for that filter outlet pipe! Hope you don't mind me saying, but I would keep the moneywort and have it all in that corner to cover that pipe, which keeps drawing my eye across! Or something else tall there if not, to cover the pipe and add more...

If you are talking about painting a sealant onto ornaments etc. I had to do so to prevent paint peeling off my coffins...G4 Pond Sealer has proved excellent, it dries clear and has caused no problems in my tank

My 5' tank is going to be full of mopani wood, dark background, black sand, catfish with a specimen cichlid within. I want to grow anubias all over the wood along with other suitable plants...can someone advise me as to the suitability of this lighting unit for the plants...

So yesterday I found a hoplo had died, lying on the substrate with virtually no tail fin... Initially wondered if I had switched the powerhead on without first checking if any fish were inside, but imagine that if that were the case the fish would have been worse for wear - other than the tail...

Not an expert but be careful that you are not trying to make the colour fit the reading you want! I found that nitrite was stable over 24 hours plus i.e. no change in colour over the period...Dean seems to be suggesting that over a few hours the colour changed compared to the colour it showed...

do you think the bleach may have done for the old plant leaves? As I recall your crypts didn't get that treatment as you added them later...I'm sure you will get some new growth once they have settled. How tenacious these snails are! :grr: indeed...

yeah when you are sucking you are best off having the end you are sucking on below the tank, and keep it lower than the end in the tank and it will sustain flow. Make sure if flow stops that you completely empty the pipe before sucking again as water may be sitting in a bend in the hose close to...

as essjay says, putting in fish will create a LOT of work for you if you want to keep them alive...right now patience is your best friend! I was lucky with my cycle; no wife to push for fish, and my kids old enough to just look, yawn, and move on! No experience with any of these 'wonder...
