    5 Weeks And No Nitrites

Raise the temp to 29C, this will aid in the colonization of the bacteria. I am concerned that your ammonia, like mentioned above, is still too high. Keep doing water changes to bring it down to around 5 ppm. EDIT: If you have safe water, like you do because of the water conditioner, you...

    5 Weeks And No Nitrites

First of, 8 ppm is too high for ammonia. This can trigger the wrong type of bacteria to grow. Second, is the ammonia you are using just ammonia and water? Other additives will hinder the ammonia useless and will not let any bacteria to colonize. What kind of water conditioner, if any, are...

    Fish Turning Yellow?

When fish are shipped around and bought, they get very stressed out, and with this, they loose their color. After a couple of days they will get their natural colors back. So I bet that is what you are seeing. -FHM

    Nitrate Filters

Plants actually use nitrate as a source of nutrients, and if you are having plant issues, then that "nitrate filter" might be contributing to that. Other than that, take it out since it is unnecessary. You should be removing nitrate with your weekly water changes. -FHM

    Just Want To Say, Wow.

I assumed he meant chevy, because he went on to say Nova, and a Nova is a type of chevy. I just thought he was being sarcastic about it and instead of typing chevy, he typed "chavvy."

    Stocking After Fishless Cycle

Yup, if you are done with the qualifying week then go ahead and do a 90% water change and add fish. The bacteria, at least 99% of them, colonize in the filter. So moving the sand around will not affect the cycle at all. -FHM

I am on other forums, not fish related but for my other hobbies, and I got to say that out of all of them TFF is the best! There is no calling people out here, there are no negative people being mean to other people. This is just a great site for people with fish, to get together, talk and...

    Water Quality

Your nitrate level is fine. Test have proven fish can safely tolerate nitrate up to 400+ ppm. Your nitrate will never get that high with 20ish% weekly water changes... but a good rule of thumb is not to really let your nitrate get 20 ppm above your tap water. Also, since you have a planted...

    Water Quality

Even though you tank is fully cylced, I would hold off on getting 5 bumblebee gobies. Since you just have snails and shrimps on your tank, these guys do no produce that much ammonia in relation to fish, meaning; your Autotrophic bacteria count is not that high. Instead of adding 5, I would...

So I have a lot of Kribensis that I am breeding and raising, and I am going to start to sell them this summer. I am sure I am going to be shipping them, and I just need to know what is the best way to do so. I live in the US, so what would be the best carrier? How should I prepare the...

    Just Started Fishless Cycle

I would not mess with the pH during a cycle. I would let the cycle run its course and then go from there. The pH will fluctuate a lot during a cycle, and that is way it is a good idea to monitor the pH frequently. If your pH drops below 6.5, then this can result in a "pH" crash and will stall...

    Just Started Fishless Cycle

A pH of 7 is a little low for a fishless cycle. Your tank will still cycle, just at a slower rate. A pH of 8.0-8.4 is optimal along with the temp set at 29C/84F -FHM
