Hellos everyone!

I'm new to the forum but not fishies!! Mr.Fatheadminnow recommended that I join being I fail at taking care of my fish properly. I've had fish tanks in my house since I can remember. My dad had I believe about 6 tanks or so in my kitchen when I was younger. I took over my moms tank because she stopped taking care of it. That was over a year ago or so. I try to do the best I can kind of remembering what my dad did but apparently I'm not doing so well. No one ever taught me what to do so.... please don't hate me. You all would hate my tank from what I'm gathering haha. I have the purdy purple, blue and green gravel!! Like I said it was my mom's. I do have 2 plecos (I know that's bad now) 3 baby swordies that are orange and white and 2 other fish that I can't remember what they are.

More about me I do keep 2 tarantulas, 1 hamster, 4 kittys. Currently in college to be a vet tech. My biggest hobby would be cars however. I go racing and mod the crap out of them way too much. I'm 25 and always learning new things and how to better take care of my pets. That is all and I'm looking forward to learning a lot!

Glad to see you are on here! lol

Everyone on here is great! And we are more than happy you have joined the site! We have a lot of great info here, and members willing to help!

I would suggest you make a thread in the "Tropical Discussion" section, explaining everything about your tank, and then we will be able to help you get on the right track!

Well just from what you told me I'm going to do a 1/3 water change and put the conditioner stuffs in there for them tomorrow. Probably clean the filter system as well.

I would do a 50% water change and add the water conditioner accordingly via instructions on bottle.

Then I would look into getting a test kit. The API fresh water master kit is a good one!

When you clean the filter, make sure you clean it in tank water... put some tank water in a bucket and swish the filter media in there.

welcome to the forums, we have lots of resources and good minds here. like feather said the tropical discussion is a good place to start. we also have a pet section for the non fish in our lives.

i also highly recommend the chat link as well, although we may not always be awake.

anyways glad you took feathers advice and welcome.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I am new here too but the little time I have been here, I have learned a lot of valid information. This forum and it's members are a credit to the fish world :good:

I will say though, that Ebay is your best friend, when it comes to test kits :good:

Thanks everyone!!! I will for sure be stopping on my way home to get a test kit and conditioner then clean the tank.

Remember, get a liquid test kit. Strip test kites are no good, cheap and inaccurate.

Then when you get the chance, take a reading of ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH, and post them up here.
