I've never used that product myself. However, I am familiar with eSHa from the forums and it sounds like just what you need.

It's very attractive. I've not seen them before. Let us know how they heal up. Sounds like you have a treatment already lined up.

What kind of harlequin is that? It doesn't look like the ones I've familiar with. I'm used to the pork chop pattern.  I would try an anti-fungal myself but a broad spectrum that covers fungus should work as well.

    Saltwater Newb Questions

1: Is a 25G large enough for 1 or 2 of these shrimp, as well as 2 or 3 small, colorful fish? YES   2: Do I need a sump for a tank that small, or can I get by without? NO, BUT...you'll be glad you did if you can.    3: What kind of filter do I need? Is a normal sponge filter, or hang-on-back like...

    Curved Gourami

As long as the fish is eating it can live a long time even with the malformity if it's genetic. If it is disease related it will generally progress.  Obviously if it's a water issue you can fix that and if it is disease there are treatments like melafix and others you can use.  If it is genetic...

    Curved Gourami

Sounds like a deformity caused by illness. It's been well established that morphological deformities in fish result from stress, disease, poor water quality, or contaminated water.   The bend can also be caused by digestion problems rather than a spinal issue. Sometimes when a fish is...

Please Help Me! All My Fish Are Dying!

It's possible that they have a disease, or that something got into the water without you knowing it. It's also possible that the tank is suffering from something called "old tank syndrome". For years this wasn't well understood but research has shown that over time nutrients can build up in the...

Nerite Snails questions & Cracked Snail Shell

No animals should be in the tank until it is fully cycled. Especially invertebrates. Snails are less likely to survive than other creatures in an un-cycled tank.

Nitrate From 5.0 To 10.0 And Fish Sick

When we talk about "water quality" we are talking about the levels of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate for the most part and with some fish pH. Colored or cloudy water can be a problem and sometimes it isn't a problem. Some fish keepers have tanks that are always dark such as in the picture from...

Nitrate From 5.0 To 10.0 And Fish Sick

It could be a disease but if you are reading ammonia it leads me to think water quality is the issue.    While .25 isn't what I would consider a highly toxic level of ammonia long term exposure can reduce the immune system of the fish leaving them susceptible to diseases. Vacuuming can also...

Nitrate From 5.0 To 10.0 And Fish Sick

Ammonia is likely the problem. A cycled tank should test out at zero. As you pointed out the deaths caused a spike. Keep up on the water changes.

    Are Your Fish Drunk?

As long as "as you were" was following the instructions on your liquid carbon then yes. Carry on! ;)
  16. Chad

    Are Your Fish Drunk?

I was right. Actually liquid Co2 only exists under high pressure. That's not the stuff you put in your tank in liquid form. A better term for what you use is liquid carbon.
  17. Chad

    Are Your Fish Drunk?

I am not sure the stuff called liquid Co2 is actually Co2. It might just be liquid carbon. I would have to research that to be sure.

    Are Your Fish Drunk?

No no. As Byron points out above, this is about gas. Also, I can't stress enough that an amount appropriate for the plants' use will not be a problem.
  19. Chad

    Are Your Fish Drunk?

I believe it was based on predator avoidance behaviors.
  20. Chad

    Are Your Fish Drunk?

So it sounds like this is something that FW fishkeepers do need to be aware of too. Obviously it won't be an issue if the Co2 is at a level the plants are consuming.
  21. Chad

    Are Your Fish Drunk?

The article I linked to links to the study. I haven't dug into it deep enough to see if it applies to freshwater fish as well but off hand I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't except perhaps if it's pH dependent but biologically it shouldn't matter.    Of course, like I said above I do...

    Are Your Fish Drunk?

This is very interesting to me. While it is about marine fish it does make me think about planted tanks with Co2 pumped into them. Of course with plants consuming the Co2 the fish shouldn't notice but if the balance is off then you could end up with drunk fish!    "CO2 can concentrate in the...

    Europe

None of that serves to negate my point.    As for Nebraska, it is the only state to be so legislated. Bringing up the one exception does not disprove the rule.    You are talking about armies and laws. I was talking about the shared culture that existed in the colonies. The 13 colonies consisted...

    Europe

This is absolutely true. Each state has its own constitution operating under the broader national one and it's own bicameral legislation and court system as well as law enforcement.  If the EU were a similar system it certainly could work and be quite economically sound.    The major difference...

    Nutritional Value Of Blood Worms

That's why I recommend a mix of foods and make it depend on the species. My marine fish are very active and a reef tank is an environment where they are able to express many of their natural behaviors. My yellow coris wrasse hunts all day long and the tangs constantly pick on the glass and rocks...

Urgent, Black Tint On Plants And On Side Of Tank. Water Turning Cloudy

I recommend getting a timer for them and setting them for 6-8 hours. Longer light duration can impact the amount of Co2 needed by the tank which can promote the growth of algae (black algae or other types).

Urgent, Black Tint On Plants And On Side Of Tank. Water Turning Cloudy

Plants basically need light and nutrients (including Co2) to grow. A lack of Co2 can result in the black algae.  How long do you keep your lights on for?

Urgent, Black Tint On Plants And On Side Of Tank. Water Turning Cloudy

I just saw the pictures, they didn't pop up before.  Looking at the picture the brown stuff doesn't look too bad. It could possibly be diatoms. It's hard to tell on decorations. Feel it with your thumb and forefinger. If it is slimy it's most likely cyano, if it comes off in a bit of a power...

Urgent, Black Tint On Plants And On Side Of Tank. Water Turning Cloudy

I advise moving the snail to another tank if possible. It doesn't sound like it is doing well and if it dies it will release ammonia into the water.    There is black algae that commonly grows on plants. This could be what you are sting on the plants.

Urgent, Black Tint On Plants And On Side Of Tank. Water Turning Cloudy

Check on the snail to make sure it's alive. If not remove it immediately. A death like that will just add to the nutrients in the system.    I can't say for sure without seeing photos. What you are describing sounds a lot like cyanobacteria. This is a nitrate loving microorganism that often pops...

Sorry about that. If a fish won't eat then there isn't much we as aquarists can do except make our best effort.

Who Use Day And Night Lights?

I do in my reef tank, but not my FW.  In a reef tank, as in nature, many things will spawn based on the moon. My lights are on a controller that matches the moon cycle to the natural cycle of my geographic location. So when it's a full moon outside it is in my tank, or if there is a new moon the...

Yup. My mama clown fish stole the whole cube out my hand yesterday and swam away with it. She knew what she was doing.

    Nutritional Value Of Blood Worms

Daphnia can just depend on the fish. I use it frequently for my marine fish since the planktivores really love it. Fish like anthias go nuts for it. But it's too small for many of my other fish.    My personal (and my fishes') favorite is mysis shrimp. I feed my FW fish frozen a couple of times...

    Nutritional Value Of Blood Worms

It's true, people sometimes think that worms, or even brine shrimp are devoid of nutrients, but really they are pretty good stuff. I don't recommend blood worms for marine fish, but for FW, especially temperate fish, they are great.

    Nutritional Value Of Blood Worms

I contacted a company that sells black worms and they sent me the below information. These are for Lumbriculus Variegatus which are Blackworms but have a similar value to blood worms. Now with this information it can be compared to other food sources we feed our fish...

    My Pond

Thanks, that's very pretty. It's amazing what can live in it.    Do you feed it at all or is everything self sufficient?
