This sounds like an issue with the browser settings. If you are using privacy browsing you will have to do this, clearing the cache/history will do this as well, or not allowing cookies to be set. 

What kind of algae do you plan on using? I ask because most of the macro algae need some disrupting.

I'm sure I'm not the only one to think of it but I feel it's original. I used to breed heavily so came up with the idea. I liked it because it's easy to remove when you are done with it and inexpensive.

The only concern is that removing them will remove that bacteria from the sorority tank so generally I recommend just taking one out at a time. 

I will second what fluttermoth has said. Do a little detective work to narrow down the problem then you can fix it. A tank should smell pleasant. A good marine tank smells like the ocean and a good freshwater tank smells like the stream. 

From you post it sounds like they were in a working tank, so if that's the case they should be usable as media for another tank.    The bacteria need something to feed on. So for sponges to be live biological filtration they need to have been in an environment that promotes the growth of...

That's good news for people just starting in the hobby, or who are on a limited budget of money or time...it's a tank they could pull off and have look really nice. 

Thanks for posting those. The tank has a look I really like. It's also the kind of tank I believe makes fish feel very secure and unstressed. I had a similar tank with dwarf puffers in it and the tall plants allowed them to create territories and stay out of each others way.    Lovely shots!

Well, this isn't a photography forum so you'll be forgiven if the saturation if off a bit. No, seriously, there are few things I find more inspiring to my own designs and plans that pictures of other people's tanks so I try to get them, hunt them down, google them or whatever when I get a chance.

For checking salt I recommend a refractometer.    You will need about 1 pound per gallon of live rock. Here's an article on how to pick quality live rock.    I highly recommend sand over crushed coral. The main reason is that crushed coral tends to hold detritus which leads to higher phosphates...
