my male guppies did the same. They stayed right at the surface for 2-3 days until they started fully exploring the tank. If they have eaten and are now exploring, I wouldn't worry :)

I dont have any shrimplets... and my smallest are about 3/4 of an inch long now. Surely the shrimp are too quick for the snails? I don't know what else to do. I went to the lfs and they suggested a snail trap, but he didnt know if the shrimp would get stuck in it... unfortunately one of them...

Well done Colleen for saying that. Too many times have I heard LFS owners say "I've owned fish for X amount of years and I've never done this fishless cycle - tanks need fish"... yet I'm sure they seed from their other tanks. Thats technically what we all do once we get our 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc...

I love my male guppies. and I love my neon tetras (although sadly a nasty LFS sold me ones with fin rot so I've just lost the last of the 6 I bought from them). Going to see if I can buy a few more tetras and 2 more male guppies from the nice LFS at the weekend :) I want some unusual looking...

Not after that length of time. Guppies (as with all fish) die of stress within a matter of days, never weeks, after being moved from store to home. Do you know anyone with a mature fishtank? maybe you could get some mature filter media from them to help your tank along... Also, it's all well...

most places sell tetras in 5's round here. I'm guessing that's what you bought (having lost one). Go buy another 5, and another 4 juli corys. if you want neons, maybe up your current tetras to 8 of each, and add 8 neons. I know you're wanting to avoid livebearers, but what about male guppies...

Nemo (the one with 1 fin) was dead in the tank yesterday morning. The other dull one (now named Casper) doesn't look too great. I don't know what to do :-(

We had a hermit crab.. they're awesome :D a water area, a damp sponge area and a dry area, plenty of shells to choose from and they're happy :) careful though, they love to escape :) oh and they love corn flakes (straight out of the box obv, no milk or sugar for crabbies :rolleyes:

by "rubbing themselves on the top of the tank" do you mean swimming right at the surface? if so, I've been told thats what guppies do. Also, if you read my other tread you'll see that some people say guppys are susceptible to stress, so maybe it was just that as it was with my lemon male guppy...

ooh yes.. I never thought about that... if the new platy is a male and your current platy is a female, then I think (as with all other livebearers) that you need a higher ratio of females to males, and as such she might be terrified? +1 with trying another fish of the same colour

omg thats so sad and yet an adorable story at the same time :-( I hope your platy can find love again.... maybe try her with the betta, but be wary of the betta being aggressive... Ive never owned a betta but I know each fish has its own personality.
