Hi All

I recently bought some moss from a seller on here and although I thought I'd rinsed it well I found a snail. I picked it out and thought that was that, but over the past few days I've picked out at least 15. so Im guessing they're breeding... :(

So I thought an assassin snail would help :)

Will 1 suffice? and will they harm my shrimp?

Thanks
Willow

*edit* I only have a 48l tank, so not big enough for the snail eating fish

I have just removed the 2 assassin snails from my shrimp tank, they have reduced the snail population down to a few,but then my shrimp started disappearing,i am hoping it wasnt the assasins, but dont know what else it could be,
Its a shrimp only tank.

Have lost about 75 juveniles in the last few months.

I have witnessed them eating shrimpletts (not in my tank though luckily)

I dont have any shrimplets... and my smallest are about 3/4 of an inch long now. Surely the shrimp are too quick for the snails? I don't know what else to do. I went to the lfs and they suggested a snail trap, but he didnt know if the shrimp would get stuck in it... unfortunately one of them them suggested I put 1 clown loach in my tank (1 alone is bad enough but in a 48 litre tank? eerrrm... no).

There was a woman there shopping who said she had a snail problem. She had removed everything from her tank, boiled the gravel, hot bleached the tank etc, bought new ornaments, and yet still was infested with them :(

I seriously don't know what to do now :(

I have heard the a lettuce leaf can work. Put it in, leave it for a few hours then remove it full of snails. Never tried it myself though.

ooh that could work... the shrimp would flee when I went to pick it out so I wouldn't have to worry about it.

Would there be snail eggs on the wood/root in my tank? I'm considering using this as an excuse to upgrade to a 65litre, but I dont want to spend days presoaking new wood...

Hmm. I suppose you could boil the wood before putting it in the new tank to kill any snails (sounds really cruel when I write it down but it sounded good in my mind lol).

i have just found some baby Assasins in my tank, could have a root about tomorrow see how many there is if you like? :good:
