Platy Pregnant- When Will She Drop?

I bought a pregnant platy from the pet shop (more for your money, eh?) and brought her home.
She's been with us, happily for about 5 days.
I've had fry before (unexpected), so I know how to care for the fry.

So few questions-

1. HIDING-
When the female starts to hide... is it a few minutes before she drops...? a few hours...? Or a few days?

2. GRAVID PATCH-
Do all heavily pregnant females get this? Can you notice it on a dark-ish fish? How dark does it get before she's about to drop?

3. FEEDING-
Will she stop eating for a bit? Or what?
