    Bumblebee Gobby

The best place to start would be to read the section on bumblebee gobies on nmonks webpage: HERE I havn't kept them myself, but there are many species offered for sale under the name 'bumblebee goby', I think its actually the case that most of them live in freshwater in the wild, but in general...

    Adding To Stock

I'd say not, especially if the cons are a pair. You may even see trouble later down the line as the fish mature and if its working now I'd say best not to intervene.

    Cichlid Territories

Depends on which specific NW cichlids you're adding to the new tank on what their reactions will be to 'territory establishment'. A fish like a firemouth will probably compromise, where as a jaguar or red devil will claim the whole tank as theirs. The situation with 4 firemouths and 4...

    210 Gallon With Overflow

Yeah, the holes will be to a sump most likely (though they will both be outflows), with water returning to the tank though pipes leading to the top of the tank - I think. I have never completely understood the placement of 2 holes in the bottom of the tank - if power goes off the whole tank...

    What Is Your Favourite Gourami

400 gallon seems excessive, though bigger is better for these fish. The common consensus is they reach 20" maximum (smaller than regular giant gourami's) so I would say a 180 gallons minimum, with a 240 being preferable.

A true surface dweller that can pass as both black and white could be marbled hatchet fish, though make sure you have a tight fitting lid as they are excellent jumpers.

Need Help With Fry Asap Please

Yeah, they should make good parents so I'd leave the fry with them. If they are first time parents however they might take a few goes to get everything right, but they will eventually. It might get to the point however when the parents are ready to spawn again so will eat the fry. My honduran...

    Going On Holiday

I'd just do the regular stuff, 1 week isn't bad. A water change just before you go and one when you get back. If you do feel the need to rinse the media, do about 25% or so, and do it in tank water not tap water (the chlorine will kill the bacteria). One good tip is to measure out the food...

Please Can Anyone Advise On Which Would Be A Good Fish?

Jurupari will unfortunately get too big, but the firemouth sounds a good option. So the stocking would be 1 blue acara, 1 firemouth and 1 BN plec, which is reasonable stocking if you like those fish.

Need Advice Stocking A 29 Gallon Tank

Rainbow wolffish, Erythrinus erythrinus. Grow to about 8" and are aggressive and predatory, they are more active than their larger relatives. Wildwoods and another shop online (forgotten name right now), has them for sale at £35-£40 I think.

Please Can Anyone Advise On Which Would Be A Good Fish?

Nah, sorry for the misunderstanding my suggestion was for one of the fish on the list to accompany the blue acara. Blue acaras should get on with bristlenose, corys (though I've heard some say they don't), garra, columbian tetra. The neon rainbow and spotted might be on the menu when the blue...

    What Is This Fish Please?

Its a jack dempsey cichlid, they come from Central America. They can reach 8" or so and are aggressive. Judging by the gill pattern I will say its a male jack dempsey. What size tank is he in with your oscar out of interest.

Please Can Anyone Advise On Which Would Be A Good Fish?

Yeah, I got a vision 260 and the width at the end of the tank is only 13" compared to 18" or so in the centre, which makes it awkward to have larger fish as they will find it hard to turn at the ends of the tank. Is the tank 41 cm in the centre of the tank or at the edges? I think it will most...

Need Advice Stocking A 29 Gallon Tank

12" seems to be the conclusion amongs aquarists I've seen. Its actually only fishbase I have seen put them at 20", the go to guy (or gal in this case) would be beblondie, she knows her stuff on polypterus. Her intro on another site has them at 12". I'm guessing you discounted them because you...

Please Can Anyone Advise On Which Would Be A Good Fish?

I wouldn't keep a pair as well (2 mated fish, not 2 random fish), it just increases aggression which may be taken out on your BN plec. Whats the dimensions of the tank? (length and width at end of the tank are more important). EDIT: Severums will be too big, blue acaras would probably work...

Need Advice Stocking A 29 Gallon Tank

Senegals will mainly top out at 12" or there abouts, I've yet to see one over this. I havn't heard of a 20" senegal polypterus, I think thats what fishbase puts them at that, maybe a monster wild caught specimin, but in captivity 12" is a good size. A good fish for that tank might be a red...

    Angel Fish

The 'feelers' I think are their ventral fins. I doubt they would have just dropped off naturally. As you described their loss in 2 stages I'm inclined to think they might have been bitten off by other fish. Whats your stocking like?

    Is This Possible?

I wouldn't do it personally, they have different temperaments, water conditions and requirements (I'm presuming you mean mbuna).

    How Much Power

Just to note that that can be deceptive, heaters arn't on all the time, only when the temperature drops to a certain point then it kicks in and then turns off when the water reaches a certain temperature. Though with the weather we are having now I'm noticing mine is on more often than not :P.

Lake victorian cichlids: This species has a wide distributin across much of Lake Victoria. Nicknamed "Chessboard" due to the 5-7 vertical bars on the flanks. Any Chance At All?

Balloon refers to their body shape, I think its a spinal disorder (they looked deformed to me, but each to their own) that causes this. Gold rams are just a colour varient. Young Gold balloon ram I much prefer the 'regular' blue rams, the ones that are 'ballooned' are man maid deformities...

Future Oddball Fish Stocking Options, Suggestions?

Havn't got one anymore I'm afraid, woke up one morning and I found out it had died, was a fair few months ago now. Pigmy Cories In Birmingham Area

    Severum, Red?

Your tank is already fully stocked with the 2 eartheaters which will outgrow the tank. A 55 gallon isn't big enough for a single severum in my opinion. They are big, chunky fish that need their space.

    Severum, Red?

Geophagus' brasiliensis can reach 10", so I would think about rehoming them as a 55 gallon tank (I'm going on standard US size 55 gallon) is only 13" wide.

    Less Aggresive Small Cichlids

Keyholes are meant to be placid. Orange chromides should ideally be kept in brackish water, so something to think about.

    Ugh!

But by buying it you're supporting the shop, which will buy even more fish and kept them in the same or worse conditions. I know its hard but you're being part of the cycle, if you could walk away then at least you arn't supporting the practice and hopefully the shop will learn.
  32. shroob

    Ugh!

What size tank have you got for it? I may be wrong but I thought you had 2 oscars in a 55 gallon already. I know it might sound cruel but its my opinion that by rescueing the oscar you are helping the cycle continue, as long as fish sell the shop will keep stocking fish like that and not...

    Flowerhorn Question

I havn't heard of a flowerhorn being peaceful, they say every fish is an individual, but I think all flowerhorns will be aggressive. This aggression will kick in as the fish matures, when it reaches 6" or so then you will notice it.

Starting To Get Things Going In The 125! :d

Aquarium silicone is often used to hold rocks together. Though with oscars I'd be careful about positioning as if they knock a stack of rocks over you wouldn't want that crashing into the glass.

Will A Hoplo Catfish Eat 1cm Long Shrimp?

I think an adult hoplo would like the chance to try a 1cm shrimp. I havn't personally tried it but I wouldn't fancy adding one to my shrimp tank. You could always try a few shrimp, cherrys are quite prolific so losses would be recovered pretty fast (abit heartless on the 'tester shrimp' but it...

    Transporting Shrimp ?

I'd say its certainly possible for shrimp to survive a 1 hour 15 journey, considering a lot of shrimp are sent via the post :P. The best way would be to inform the shop of your journey and ask them to package the shrimp accordingly (most good LFS will do this for you). Failing that you can...
