    Preparing A 50 Gallon 4ft Tank

Yeah, you could stock more in either scenario, if you wanted. Good luck on the 125!

I don't think either would be overstocked, until the fry start coming. :hey:

African Cichlids Id Please (3 Fish)

First one some kind of zebra... No help there. Second looks to be some type of peacock. Third is a red fin borelyi. I think I spelled that right.

    Splashing Tetra Numbers?

Should be just fine. Get more females than males to limit aggressive tendencies between them, or get all males if you don't plan to breed them.

Look at Betta coccina. I think I spelled that right.

    Pleco Happy?

A happy pleco will always be chewing away at the various surfaces. Make sure it has a cave it can go into to hide when it wants. Gravel is fine, as long as it doesn't have sharp edges. Sand is best for burrowing fish and fish that root around in the substrate, ie., cories, loaches and eels. A...

Small Spores On This Plant. Any Ideas?

Most places grow swords and other plants emersed, so those are terrestrial leaves and just dying off for new aquatic leaves. Before you finish planting it, be sure to remove the weight and foam and don't cover the crown of the plant. That's where the roots meet the plant, swords will rot if its...

    Oscar Growth

What size tank is he in? How often do you do water changes and how much? By the way, liver isn't good for him.

Yeah, looks like #1 is female and #2 male.

    Stocking My 20g Long

Rasboras can be nippy, if you keep just a couple. Tetras, rainbowfish and danios, will often act out on their tank mates, when kept in insufficient numbers.

    Tank Mates

Tank is to small and discus are not for beginners. They have special requirements and your other fish will not like them.
  16. thereverendturtle

    New Fish Ideas

No but the 82+ deg F discus need, preferably 85-86 deg F, will shorten the life span of your fish. Your aquarium is small for a discus, and they do best in schools of 6+.

    Plant Id Please!

Yeah first one is a crypt, very easy to keep. It may melt tho in your tank. Don't worry, it will grow back. The second appears to me to be pygmy chain sword. I could be wrong on that one. It's fairly easy to keep with just a couple of full length bulbs. If that's what it is.

Looking For Help With My New Tank

Your tank is a little small to go to crazy with. If it were me I'd do something like this.... 2 male guppies 3 platies 1m/2f 8 neons/cardinal tetras 6 dwarf cories or panda cories And maybe a male dwarf gourami As for cycling the new tank, set it up, add some muck from your existing filter to...

    Quick Answer Please!

Males and females are almost identical. The best way to tell is if they are old enough, females will have a squareish looking breeding tube, and males will have a pointed one. If you post pics after they are a bit settled and they are about 2" someone might be able to tell.

    No worries. Good luck! :good:

    Stocking My 20g Long

A group of chilli rasboras will give you some activity in the middle, and aren't very aggressive feeders.
  26. thereverendturtle

    Quick Answer Please!

Even if they are both males, won't make a difference. They are gregarious by nature and like to be in groups, only breaking from the group to spawn and guard their fry.

I Know Its Been Asked A Hundred Times.

A trio of blue or moonlight gouramis, would stand out from the crowd. Adult moonlights are beautiful fish, and one of the least aggressive of the larger gourami.
  28. thereverendturtle

    Adding Shrimp...!

Cherry shrimp would be an excellent addition. 10-12 of them should be about right.

    My Stocking Suggestion

No, an air pump won't add extra filtration. Personally, I would leave out the serpaes as they tend to be nippy in schools smaller than 8-10 fish. Maybe add one more glass cat in their place. I might also change the rainbow gourami for a pair of honey dwarfs or croaking gouramis. There is a...

Yes, gouramis would be fine. My favorite for communities are the pearls, 1m/2f+. Any of the common gouramis at the same ratio would work as well. I just like the colors of the pearls.

    Angelfish Stocking

Rainbow sharks tend to be a little less aggressive in my experience. What about hoplo or porthole cats?

    Two Guppies Fin Nipped/rotten/torn?

I would separate them and add some salt, to help prevent fungus/bacterial problems. Have you noticed anyone chasing them? Maybe the balas getting a little nippy at feeding time?

    Filtration Placement

Putting them both on one side won't matter.

    Who Did It?

Was a water test performed after the dead fish were discovered?
  36. thereverendturtle

I Know Its Been Asked A Hundred Times.

Have lots of floating plants. Take the killies out of the list and the rainbowfish. Stick with the smaller tetra and danio species, to maximizes fry survival.

    Super Excited

A 20 gallon with an opaline gourami... Personally I'd stick with a southeast Asian theme. The gourami, 6 kuhli loaches, 12 harlequin rasboras, 4 b.b. gobies and maybe some cherry shrimp.
  38. thereverendturtle

I Know Its Been Asked A Hundred Times.

Most tetras, danios and rainbowfish. Bolivian rams would be a good community cichlid. A group of true upside-down cats (Synodontis nigriventris) would do well. If you want something a little different killie fish would be a good choice. Really it comes down to what you like and what's available...
