How Often Do You Clean Your External?

Once a month or so, I will clean part of my external filter. ie, pads one month, 1 of the cartridges the next, an other cartridge the next and so on till I'm back to the start again. Then once a decade I clean the tubes

    New 110l Tank

Really nice scape! I'm all for plastic plants, if its done right. Not the bright pink and blue ones you see in some tanks, but ones like this that look nice and natural. Good job :good:

Would Like Help On Deciding On A Big Tank For These Fish...

All the fish on your list will probably get along fine. I would up Tue number of shrimp though, to maybe 15. 2 tiny shrimp in a 4ft tank will be near impossible to see, but if there was more of them they will feel safer and come out a bit more. Rainbows can be quite fiesty, they might see the...

Does Anyone Prefer Gravel Over Sand

I recently made the change from gravel to sand. Really like the brightness in my tank now with the sand. But, I've kept my gravel. As much as I like the sand, I will always like the finer gravel. I have 2-4mm gravel and it looks awesome. But for now... Sand :good:

Could I Keep Any Dwarf Cichlids In My Tank

This is absolutely spot on. You would be pushed for space in a 100ltr tank. Dwarf cichlids like to mark out their own territory, ie caves and such. I think if you were to mix them you would have to get a singleton of each species. But from what I've read, they prefer to be paired with their...

    Best Sand For Cichlid Tank?

Why not just get some argos play sand? Colour wise it fits the bill and its a fraction of the price and looks just as good I think.

    Blood Parrot Cichlid Health Tips

Parrots will eat just about anything, but a bit of veriety in any fishes diet is important. Try some kinds of cichlid pellets, frozen bloodworm or brine shrimp, freeze dried foods. Even stick in a bit of chopped prawns as an occasional treat. De-shelled peas too always goes down a treat. Most...

What Do You Consider 'essential' Treatments Or Medications For

White spot or any kind of wounds its good for. Adding some salts and increasing the temp by a couple of degrees is usually enough. Thankfully its not something I've had to do very often. Edit. I think aquarium salt and salt used in marine tanks are different. I may be wrong though?

What Do You Consider 'essential' Treatments Or Medications For

I only keep aquarium salt as a 'must have' tank treatment.

    Goldy's 3Ft Tropical Tank.

Yeh, a back drop would finish your tank off. Nice plain black back drop. I recently painted the back of my tank with black gloss and it looks amazing. Got the gloss from Asda for a couple of quid.

    High Ph, Any Tips?

Get yer wellies on 'n' move tae Scotland  The waters great here. I have read that adding almond leaves can help lower your PH. But as said, test your water and find out how all your stats are sitting, post your results on here and then someone will be able to help you a bit better :good:

    Blue Acara

Well, got one tonight. Had a look for a while, my lfs had some nice ones to choose from, but it was one of the smaller females that looked the best so I took that. Awesome looking fish. Will post a pic tomorrow night once she's settled in a bit.

    Blue Acara

So a singleton is better then? Cool, that's what i'll go for then. What would be better looking out of a male and female? Or are they much the same?

    Blue Acara

I am thinking about getting a blue acara within the next few days. I have saw them in my lfs o Dr the years and never been able to get one, but now I am. From what I've read about them in the fish index section on here, my tank is perfect for them. But it doesn't say anything about numbers. I...

    New 63L Tank Set Up

Also, just read an other thread there, someone mentioned almond leaves, which can be bought on ebay. They will help lower your PH, so long as there replaced every so often. And they look quite nice too.

    New 63L Tank Set Up

Hi Thomas. Do you have anything in your tank that could cause your PH to be so high? ie, sand, rock or anything like that? I know water down your way IS quite high anyway. But 8.2 isn't "danger high". But you would be better around 7.5. Bogwood in tanks can help keep PH lower but I'm not sure...

    Snow?!

What you talking about MBOU? Our snow is awesome! For that 30 seconds where it does fall, its amazing! Then instantly turns to brown slushy goop. And try not ne be overwhelmed and think its a good idea to catch it on your mouth..... tasted like pollution

    4Ft X 12" X 15" Fish Recommendations

Your in for a treat if you chose tiger barbs in your tank. I have the same size tank with 10 tigers, 2 firemouth, 2 gold severum and a red tail shark. The firemouth are great sand sifters. Thinking of upping the barbs to 15 and adding some zebra loach (6-8) for the bottom. I love my tigers...

    Freshwater Blue Lobster?

Not advised if you have any bottom dwellers. Pleco's MAY be ok with them but I would expect them to have ripped fins. I haven't owned 1 myself, but a friend of mine had 1 years ago and it was a monster. We call him the 'rock lobster'. Was housed with oscars, bala sharks, severum and a 12" plec.
  36. garyspence84

    Bogwood

Unfortunately it will take as long as it takes. Just stick it in your tank and weigh it down with some rocks or whatevers already in there in the mean time :good:

    Beach/garden Rocks ?

As long as they don't have any "veins" on them, or different colours running through them, then they should be fine. I would leave them in a bucket of water for a couple of weeks and do a few water tests to see if they do anything out of the ordinary to the water. Do the odd water change...

    Freeze Dried Foods

Pretty crud in what way? Nutrition? I would have thought they'd be roughly the same, freeze dried and frozen that is. I give my fish frozen cubes twice a week, usually weekends as a treat.
