Once a month or so, I will clean part of my external filter. ie, pads one month, 1 of the cartridges the next, an other cartridge the next and so on till I'm back to the start again. Then once a decade I clean the tubes :lol:

I recently made the change from gravel to sand. Really like the brightness in my tank now with the sand. But, I've kept my gravel. As much as I like the sand, I will always like the finer gravel. I have 2-4mm gravel and it looks awesome. But for now... Sand :good:

Why not just get some argos play sand? Colour wise it fits the bill and its a fraction of the price and looks just as good I think.

White spot or any kind of wounds its good for. Adding some salts and increasing the temp by a couple of degrees is usually enough. Thankfully its not something I've had to do very often. Edit. I think aquarium salt and salt used in marine tanks are different. I may be wrong though?

I only keep aquarium salt as a 'must have' tank treatment.

Yeh, a back drop would finish your tank off. Nice plain black back drop. I recently painted the back of my tank with black gloss and it looks amazing. Got the gloss from Asda for a couple of quid.

Well, got one tonight. Had a look for a while, my lfs had some nice ones to choose from, but it was one of the smaller females that looked the best so I took that. Awesome looking fish. Will post a pic tomorrow night once she's settled in a bit.

Also, just read an other thread there, someone mentioned almond leaves, which can be bought on ebay. They will help lower your PH, so long as there replaced every so often. And they look quite nice too.

Hi Thomas. Do you have anything in your tank that could cause your PH to be so high? ie, sand, rock or anything like that? I know water down your way IS quite high anyway. But 8.2 isn't "danger high". But you would be better around 7.5. Bogwood in tanks can help keep PH lower but I'm not sure...

What you talking about MBOU? Our snow is awesome! For that 30 seconds where it does fall, its amazing! Then instantly turns to brown slushy goop. And try not ne be overwhelmed and think its a good idea to catch it on your mouth..... tasted like pollution :lol:

Your in for a treat if you chose tiger barbs in your tank. I have the same size tank with 10 tigers, 2 firemouth, 2 gold severum and a red tail shark. The firemouth are great sand sifters. Thinking of upping the barbs to 15 and adding some zebra loach (6-8) for the bottom. I love my tigers...

Not advised if you have any bottom dwellers. Pleco's MAY be ok with them but I would expect them to have ripped fins. I haven't owned 1 myself, but a friend of mine had 1 years ago and it was a monster. We call him the 'rock lobster'. Was housed with oscars, bala sharks, severum and a 12" plec.

Unfortunately it will take as long as it takes. Just stick it in your tank and weigh it down with some rocks or whatevers already in there in the mean time :good:

As long as they don't have any "veins" on them, or different colours running through them, then they should be fine. I would leave them in a bucket of water for a couple of weeks and do a few water tests to see if they do anything out of the ordinary to the water. Do the odd water change...

Pretty crud in what way? Nutrition? I would have thought they'd be roughly the same, freeze dried and frozen that is. I give my fish frozen cubes twice a week, usually weekends as a treat.
