My grandmother used to breed pedigreed show and pet rabbits, we had a barn full of about 300 of them. You cannot keep them together unless they are both fixed, the doe could get seriously or fatally injured.

That's what I do when I have to, I had a green algae tank for a while, but got tired of it, I wanted to see my fish! (they were fat and beautimous), so I just siphoned all the water out, left enough for them to swim upright, and refilled, you may have to do another small change after that, but...

The issue is not the filter you use, or the bio-load at this point, it's the space you have and how big your fish are going to get (which not only has to do with bio-load, but healthy growth and longevity of your fish)... you could use a filter for a 100g tank on that thing and it won't solve...

I think I may have figured out your issue... let me ask a few more questions, is this 25g running with an established filter, or all new media? I'm going to guess new media, correct? Is it fair to assume that your tank is not cycled? Do you know about the Nitrogen Cycle?

 

Yes, I do believe it's area to area... some are luckier than others! I just can't, in good conscience, change my tank water without dechlorinating it, only because I know what happens in the water where I live! The chlorine is so strong. If I have to, for cuts or scrapes, I'll add a little salt...

Same here, although I live on the outskirts of the city that's about 5min away... definitely not what I would call "fresh" water....

I feel you already know the answer to this question >_> however:   http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/423364-betta-splendens-caresheet/ I've always read that you should feed them what they can consume in 2min... but with betta pellets a good rule of thumb is no more than 2-3 a day MAX.

Some areas don't add chlorine, and those areas are usually the ones who don't dechlorinate. Chlorine is toxic, and I don't subject my fish to it even for a short time. That's just my choice and preference. If they are swimming in it for any length of time, it causes chemical burns... better safe...

Thank you, and yes, it was no simple feat!! At the time it was only a 29g tank, so it was manageable.... still back breaking and a real work out. I was doing 50% water changes, sometimes twice a day (with a 3g bucket >_>)... just to keep the water specs in check and livable... hard work... not...

It shouldn't hurt the bacteria as long as you don't run the filter before the water has been dechlorinated, there isn't enough BB within your aquarium itself to make a difference, your BB colony lives in your filter. I've heard people who do it different ways, some use a plastic tub as a middle...

I was offline for quite a while during the evening, and didn't get back on until like after 1AM lol (insomnia)... so I didn't notice anything, but maybe they were doing maintenance? 

I feel the convo has been on par, considering that this fish needs to be re-homed... I believe people were just giving suggestions as to what might be able to take it's place, as a re-homing of a pet always leaves us with a "void" we wish to fill again. And she DID ask about what she could get...
