A hobbyist does not buy fish for purpose but for reason.

Awesome fish! Thanks for 'introducing' me to it (I want some now ;)  ).

I just think we're going off topic; we've identified the OPs fish, and she's not looking to replace it with another algae eater, so, interesting as it is, we don't really need to be discussing suitable species :)

I feel the convo has been on par, considering that this fish needs to be re-homed... I believe people were just giving suggestions as to what might be able to take it's place, as a re-homing of a pet always leaves us with a "void" we wish to fill again. And she DID ask about what she could get as a replacement:

When I find him a home would you all suggest getting a small breed algae eater to replace him or would I be ok without one?
I feel that those who have replied have been very helpful.

Yes, it's been interesting, and I know about a fish I've never heard of before, so it's all good :)

Yes my sincere thanks to all your responses, and I have learnt a lot too looking at all the different fish mentioned

Just sod's law really that my fave fish is gonna be re-homed, still the LFS is eager to have him, just not sure I will be able to go there afterwards either in case he has gone or in case he hasn't. Never thought I would get attached to a fish! But with his wonderful personality and showy sailfins what's not to like
