    Who keeps Clams?

No they are FRESHWATER. I was not reading when asked sw. Sorry but they are freshwater. And yes most clams / musseles need a host (fish) when breeding. Though I have never had any problems keeping clams / musseles in tanks with fish / plants. danny

    Filters & Filters

I think it's up the the hobbiest prefference and experience with the carbon filters. I know MANY hobbiest that preffer not to use only when trying to remove meds resedu after a treatment. And others like myself who for years have used and swear by them. JUST my opinion now. I use the whisper...

    Who keeps Clams?

Yeap they are really close in appearence to the many clams found further north. Which in some states some clams / musseles have become a problem because they have taken over. Many of the clams / musseles that are native to the diff. parts of the US get pretty large also. These tend to stay in...

    Who keeps Clams?

I'm sure most of us with sand bottom tanks keep or would like to keep clams. Recently I added several more clams and several mussels in several of my sandy bottom tanks. I use to only keep the asian clams which are alittle easier to find. But, a few weeks ago a fellow fish keeper sent me...

    Turtle Tale

Hello everyone, Just wanted to share my turtle tale. Well this morning about 8:00 while driving from building to building where my carpenters are working I was coming over a small bridge which cuts over a small creek with a pond on each end. Well anyways I saw a small spotted soft shell turtle...

    Pruning Plants?

The cut really doesn't matter. I normaly run the blade at a slight angle. But again this realy doesn't matter to much. Danny

    Pruning Plants?

No it's in no way bad. I agree but, many stem plants if cut jagged will brown at cut. You can pretty much prune, cut, clip, trim, many diff. ways. By using a razor the cut is clean and it infact is less stress on the plant itself. As in many cases you can just use your finger nail and it's also...

    Pruning Plants?

Do you know what type of plant? Most steam plants can be easly propogate. Many stem plants send small roots along the stem which are actualy trying to reach the gravel/sand. Best to use a razor and make a clean cut just below the leave stem. Alot of plants once cliped/cut back will split off...

    flicking after bloodworm

I agree with abstract on this one. Alot of times my fish (the greedy ones) tend to shake alittle as if trying to work the food either down or back up. That in most cases is a result of stuffing too much down at once. I have an Apisto that does that just about everytime after feeding. Only he...

    Brine Shrimp Breeding...

I agree it is some work involved but, I have tried the frozen and the results in growth rate just were'nt the same. I just started buying the three pack which cost 2.99. Which one hatch last about 4 days. Now that depends on how many fish are being fed. Right now 4 days feeding: 1. ) 5 Apisto...

    Brine Shrimp Breeding...

Have you tried hatching brine shrimp eggs? This can be pretty easy and a great source of food for baby fish which sounds like what you are trying to do. You can buy a tube of baby brine shrimp eggs at most LFS. All you need to do is rig you up a hatchery which I will also better explain...

Once again SORRY for the rant that took place. I believe the issue has been resolved yet I did want to point out that........... On my part I briefly read the post and didn't bother to see the tank size nor inhabitants. In turn my diagnosis could have been a problem as well as a cure. I...

Grow up ! who felt the need to qoute and contrdict??? I gave advice as we all do. Only some of us feel the need to try and belittle others opions. I don't push meds, and only suggest them / recommend them when they are needed. What next ? My opion caused the fish to die. Funny how those...

    Ick

Yes, 5 days will treat / kill the ich. I am personly aware and understand the cycle of ich. I currently have over 60 tanks up and running and over the course of 16 years have used many many meds. And ALWAYS use the Maracide and in 5 yes! 5 days it's gone. Three days ? where did three days...

    Ick

I suggested the Maracide because I have used it for years and IMO it's the best cure for ich and other external parasites. If it's ich, this will work and it is safe for ALL fish and aquatic life. Danny

    Ick

Sorry to hear fishies are ill. Before I forget, NO ! salt if the tank is home to cories. There are many meds for ick though all depends on what your LFS carries. I use Maracide which is a 5 day treatment and will NOT hurt any of the tanks inhabitants. Just remove carbon (if any) and follow...

How do snales get in our tanks?

In salt water it is a bit different. As someone mentioned Turbo snails are used as cleaners. Though with salt water many are introduced on live rock and in most cases these little snails can and will eat many corals/feather dusters/ worm rock and many other soft corals and life. I kept salt...

How do snales get in our tanks?

Snails lay their eggs on plant leaves, tank decor, glass on pretty much any surface available. Most times we introduce them when we bring home some new plants from LFS and do not properly rinse them nor first put them into an empty tank and rinse w/ salty water or a snail rid soulution. Most of...

    white spots

sounds like ick, Is it small white dots? like salt sorta? If so I would try using some Maracide. Or if not avail try Quick Cure. If poss. raise your water temp a bit and treat with either of the above. Ick will live dormant in the tank even after signs are gone so even if it appears to be gone...
