    Need Some Help

no, I can't guarantee you that they will be ok. I can only generalize based upon past experiences both learned first hand and read from others. I'm sorry I can't give you more than that. In general, this is exactly what happens when they breed and in the end they are both fine. The male...

    Filter Too Strong?

Then yes, that is too much filtration/water flow. :) Get a small internal sponge filter for fry and you should be fine. :)

    Please Help

Well, they are one of my favorite ever fish and I've actually have had great luck with them in my tanks with the exception of a couple. I, however, wouldn't recommend them to anyone else that hasn't been in the Mbuna hobby for a while. He can cause much more pain and death in your tank than...

    Need Some Help

You could let them work it out on their own, and they will eventually but how badly will one get hurt in the process? or seperate them. It really is as easy as that. This is basic cichlid breeding behaviour, in all honesty. What size tank is it?

Discus - Why So Many Conflicting Bits Of Advice?

Well, I don't think one has to own a species of fish to be able to help. I've owned an ungodly amount of different cichlids and piranhas but that doesn't make me an expert on them. That only makes me an expert on the fish I've had. Others that have had the same species of fish will have had...

Can You Make Daily Water Changes To Get Nitrate Levels Down?

You're correct but it's 0ppm out of his/her tapwater which then means there is a problem somewhere if it's 80ppm later in the tank. :)

    Just Got Into Piranhas...

If I were you, I'd get a 55g, unless you can get a 75g, and take the one you have now and exchange it for 3 of the same size. It will be much easier having them get along. In a perfect world ask your lfs if you can get 5 or 6 for your 55g if they are tiny and bring back however many until you...

Can You Make Daily Water Changes To Get Nitrate Levels Down?

You're welcome. :) Remember that adult fish, in general, can go weeks and some even a couple months without eating. They may act like they're starving but they aren't. Maybe even feed just 6 days a week unless you have fry. ie. Feed Monday-Saturday. Do a wc after last feeding on Saturday...

Can You Make Daily Water Changes To Get Nitrate Levels Down?

I believe that's the answer then. You should clean your filter media in water you take out from your wc. Using tap water kills off your beneficial bacteria and you are restarting your cycle over again. You shouldn't really have that much waste in your filter media, to be honest. I believe...

Can You Make Daily Water Changes To Get Nitrate Levels Down?

No, 2 weeks without a wc wouldn't make the ammonia levels rise unless you are feeding a huge amount of foods and that also creates a lot of waste etc. . It could make the nitrates rise. yes, adding more fish will be more of a strain on the bacteria colony until it catches up again. When you...

Can You Make Daily Water Changes To Get Nitrate Levels Down?

That barely noticeable ammonia level is able to kill fish. Ammonia, at any level, is lethal to them. I wouldn't buy anymore fish until your tank is registering 0ppm for both ammonia and nitrites. I haven't looked at what's in your tank before I started replying so I'm not saying to add them...

I really like that. It blends really good from top to bottom. That has given me some thought for doing something like that in the future maybe. A Hunter Green color at top to black on the bottom.

I would love to see pics of the blue fading to black bg if you have any? That sounds like it would look great. I also have used the black garbage bag many times. It really does the trick. :good: Sf05, those pics look good. It's amazing how adding that black bg made it look so good...

    Dead Tiger Barb :(

If you have high nitrites, you want to do daily 10-15% wc's to keep it down, not weekly. The salt didn't make your ph jump. What was your ph before? The nitrites alone will kill your fish but also the ph changing alone will kill them also. How much salt did you add? 1 tsp per 300g is enough...

    Weird Problem In Freshwater Aquarium

You did fine acclimating them, that's the way I do it also. You don't need another tank to acclimate them. You didn't mention it and it's not the problem here but as a small precaution don't dump the water from the bag into your tank. Chances are, especially if the lfs is near you, that the...

    Aquarium Volume

    1) Relieve nitrite poisoning (Brown Blood disease) by displacing nitrite ions away from gills membrane. 2) Eradicates a large number of external parasites including ich, chilodonella, costia, trichodina, oodinium (velvet). 3) Combats bacterial, fungal infections and ammonia burn. 4) Kill all...

    Weird Problem In Freshwater Aquarium

Hmmm, guess it couldn't have been nitrites then. What is the Ph from your lfs? How did you acclimate them? Edit: BTW, I would do daily 15% wc's until you get your tank back to 0ppm ammonia and nitrites.

    Weird Problem In Freshwater Aquarium

Your tank is in the middle of a cycle or is into a mini-cycle. Your nitrites are too high, they should be at 0ppm.

    Ugh! I Think I Saw A Worm!

Do you mean from the poo itself or was in the aquarium and moved towards it? If the latter, it may be planaria. Not a big deal at all and harmless. Feeding a bit less and gravel vac/wc will get rid of them.

    Silver Dollars Or Tinfoil Barbs?

I'd go for silver dollars. I think they are better looking and they don't get as big. SD's get to about 6" and Tinfoils get twice as big. You could put quite a few in a 180g tank. It would look great!!! I can't wait to see pics no matter what you choose.
