The 10 gallon in this pic is half drained. I had it fully planted with a femail beta, but she died a couple weeks ago. I had her for almost 4 years. I think she died from dropsy.

    My tanks

Here is all 4 tanks I'm working on, they are in my wife's classroom (she teaches kindergarten and 1st grade). *The 55gal to the left just went through a total annihilation of almost all my fish and plants. A few months ago, I lost all my plants when the air conditioning went out and tank temps...

    Discus new home

Grat job on the stand. I was wondering why there was no gravel or sand bottom in your tank?

what new fish should i get?????

damn, back in the early 80's when I owned a pet store, I was buying little discus, about 1", for about $1 each. I'd raise them to about 4" then sel them for $20. Times have changed, I'll bet I can't afford them now, I'm sure they'd be more than that here in Hawaii.

    Can anyone name this fish?

I think we have a match: I was looking at the nannostomus beckfordi online, the color is darker in my tank, but that could be the lighting differences. I think this is the fish. Pictures

    Can anyone name this fish?

I forgot to say how big the fish is, maybe that'll help. It's about 1 1/4" and it's getting close to a year old, so I'd guess it's full grown, can't tell if it's still growing or not.

    Can anyone name this fish?

I just replaced the filter pads and for some reason the tank clouded a little, so i only took this one. I'm taking more as soon as it clears. I want to get one of the females in the next pic so maybe someone will be sure of what they are. There a kewl fish. They sit real still, then they'll...

Can you keep Puffers & Crabs together?

Great video!!! I loved it. I got a question.....aren't puffers salt water? that looked like a freshwater tank (because of the plants). I go snorkeling almost every weekend, and there are many puffers around here, in salt water. A couple weeks ago I was watching one that was almost 2' long, but...

    Need ideas..

As I was looking through all the different newts I noticed that some had normal tails and some had flat tails like the ones in the pictures I posted. I'm not an expert at all, but I think that might be something to look at. The newts I had, had a flat tail ment for swimming, and yea, they were...

    is circulation needed

I don't think lack of circulation is bad, as long as there is enough oxygen in the water for the fish. The main thing circulation is good for is to move the dirt/debre so that the filter can get it, if there is no circulation everything will just fall to the bottom, but that's OK though, if you...

    HELP QUICK

Sorry but I can't make a diagnosis on this one, I asked those questions hoping someone else might. In my experience I've noticed glasscats are a delicate fish, good luck.

    HELP QUICK

Actually the tank cleaning might be important. Are you sure the water was good (chlorine, ph etc.)? How is the fish acting? Is there any discoloration? Any bloating? Any scales missing? Are the eyes cloudy? Can you take a picture and post it here? :(

    Need ideas..

I'm not sure what kind I used to have, they were dark brown to balck on top, i can't even remember what color the belly was, i think yellowish white, but they did not grow any bigger than 3" long. They were great for cleaning up dead plant matter from the bottom and it was really kewl watching...

Can someone tell me what plant this is?

Thanx for your response..... Local really stink, these people here don't know how to make a good tank. There's one store that has a little selection, but they don't know what there doing, and they only have a few plants. I really need a place to order fish and plants if, I'll try the link you...

Can someone tell me what plant this is?

I used to have a plant in my tanks back 20 years ago. Now that I'm back into this I wanted to make the same tanks I used to have but I can't find this plant. It grows fast and can tollerat many conditions, I have not ever found a more hardy plant for filling the tank. The leaves grow alternat...

dropsy...but she is acting quite normal...

I'm sorry to hear about this too, I just lost a female beta to that last week. Just think of this. When I bought my last beta, it was at wallmart and all there beta's were in little cups. Now I know most stores do that, but these all had covers and no air holes. I tried to explain to the moron...

(remember, this is only my opinion) I hate guppies, they swim like there retarded. I like the idea catfish gave you, harlequin rasboras are nice to look at and they do school well. It's fun to watch them dissapear into the plants then re-appear somewhere else. I suggest something on the bottom...

    Paint it black

I've never had to touch up any of my tanks. As for getting excess paint of the tank, a razor blade works real well, no effort, just slide the blade along and the paint comes right off. I usually do this within an hour of painting, so it's dry, but not tottaly set.

BEST TANK SIZES FOR FW FISH

Something to consider, fish swim left and right, not up and down, long tanks are better in most cases (not all of couse). A 55gal is nice, but so tall light don't make it to the bottom good, especially when the plants start getting near the surface. My fav tank is a 40 long, plants grow well...

    Paint it black

Looking through all the pictures posted here, I haven't seen much of this...... One thing I've been doing since my first tank over 20 years ago, paint the sides and back flat black. Before you set up your tank, get some flat black paint in spray cans, paint the sides and back, then use a razor...

"How" do you fill up your aquarium?

I was told buy a few local pet stores that there is no chlorine in the local water (Hawaii). so I just use a 5 gal bucket (clean, only used for this) and syphon through a 1/4" clear tube, I just add a little stress coat to the bucket and never had any problems. If I'm in a hurry, in...

I used to own a pet store, had the best fish (freshwater) in Grand Rapids Michigan, but that was about 20 years ago (I fogot a lot and there seems to be a lot of new things). I haven't had a tank set up since then. About 2 years ago I got married and moved to Hawaii. When I got here i started...
