My "fish stuff" ie buckets, siphons, nets and so on supposedly belongs in a cupboard in our house. But I don't like to put it away wet cos it gets mouldy inside (particularly the siphons) and makes the cupboard damp, so it ends up sitting on my kitchen floor ofr a week till its dry, by which time it's time to change water again. I can't leave it outside cos it rains all the time here.

So where do you guys store wet fish things? Am I just being weird? It's starting to annoy me that I trip over buckets every time i go into the kitchen. :/

if you plug the ends of your tubing then you won't have to worry about mold developing inside the tubes. make sure it's air tight though.

I can so relate!! :p

I have buckets, nets, siphons, plastic plants and other fish stuff in my hallway and bathroom. It's so annoying!

I have a closet to put everything in but rarely do I put it all away because like you said everything is wet and what not and by the time it dries it's time to use everything again. :S

i have the luxury of living in a very dry climate, so my stuff dries overnight (sometimes, over a few hours.....). i usually leave the buckets out over night to air dry, if theres still water in them, then i grab towel and dry it out, then store in a cupboard. the siphon i just hang over the shower curtain rod so it can drip and dry without issue. nets and cups and such also get to hang out overnight in the kitchen. the net usually dries quickly, and if the cups and such are still wet, again, i dry best i can........

lol mine never get dry, i do a bucket every night alternating between tanks(thank god no water meters here)

My tank is on a sort of shelf thing, it has 2 shelves below it for stuff. The 1st shelf is for fish food, plant food, water conditioners, new filter cartridges, ect. The 2nd shelf is where I keep my buckets, nets, siphon, some old rocks, old plastic plants, ect.

I guess i should plug up my siphon after i use it, and i don't really dry the buckets out, maybe i should start.

This is a good point. All my kit at the moment lives in a dustbin that I bought for doing water changes on my tank. I try to dry the buckets out but the syphon tubes do go in there damp. Plugging the ends.....now there is an idea that i like. AInt these forums great?

my setup is pretty small so I keep my bucket under the desk and my siphon and nets fit perfectly in this tall-glass-mosaic-rectangular-usta-be-a-candle-holder thingy. It drys all by itself pretty quickly and the mosic thing is ocean themed so it looks pretty sitting next to my tanks :p

I got to thinking about this, and my thoughts were 1) a little mold and whatnot growing in the syphon is not the worst thing in the world. Biodiversity is something we should be encouraging in our tanks, because nature is constantly in competition with all sorts of molds, bacterias, etc.

And then 2) I only use my syphon for water going out of the tank anyway, so I think that very very little of the gunk in the tube could actually make it back to the tank. I guess if you use your syphon for both ways, you might get two of them, but otherewise, I do not think a little bit of gunk in the syphon is a worry.

I keep all my aquarium equipment in a dedicated storage room located in my garage.
I don't have to worry about moldiness and dampness because the room is concrete.
But when I store the siphon, I usually just hang it as an upside down U and let all the water drip down and the siphon will air dry.

well anything wet i jus give it a good shake and most of the water comes off. but i don't worry about mold and other things it usually gets put back in the cupbord under the tank where the filter is apart from buckets and RO containers, they go in the laundery room.

The fack is that if there is anything in the siphone then it gets washed out in the next waterchange. and if not then i wash it with a standard general med and salt solution that i've created.

I just roll my siphon tubes up and put them in the bucket, been diong it for 2 years and never seen any mold.

I live on the edge :p nets and syphons are kept in the cupboards underneath my 2 big tanks, I find stuff dries off in a matter of hours so wet isnt a problem.

I store all my water changing equipment behind the sofa next to a radiator, the radiator dries everything out and its all easy to get to when i need it.
