yea..i too suspect this is a hybrid. frankly i shouldnt be keeping this fish, but then i just wanna know how it would look when it grows up and how big will they get. i have seen plenty of tiger shovelnose X redtail cat hybrid, and so far i stayed clear away from them.

these imbelis are wild caught from various rice fileds in northeastern thailand. there are 12 males and 4 females in this tank...i think :whistle: my worst fear was , the males would go for each others throat....but so far so good. guess with so much hiding places among the plants , the weaker...

well, i suggest u leave them alone for a while. dont feed the parent fish anything for the time being, since they will not be interested in food for the next several days . uneaten food is an invitatiaon to disaster if the water fouls up....and any attempt to remove uneaten food will only upsets...

nope ...its a central american set up.salvini, nicaraguense , bifas, pearsei, cutteri, regani, argentea etc etc. i just dump the whole lot of them in that tank. hehehe

a bit too much salt for a cichlid i suppose , but i did came across talapias and snakeheads in blackish water around 1.010 and talapia is a cicihlid...if im not wrong. :rolleyes:

i dont see any reason in rushing your fish to get big. but if u insist...this what u should try. good food alone is not enough...they need space. minium 36inch tank. keep it in a bare tank since u will be doing two 50% water change daily. feed it 5 times daily......and siphon off the unfinish...

hahaha true dannyboy :D .the problem is i feed him with minnows once every 3 days ....i didnt count their number , but i guess each ready packed bag contains about 15 to 20 minnows(about 30cents per bag) my tank has no other deco apart from the bottom gravel. there is no where for the minnows...

yea most oscars dont have a problem with food selections, they eat almost anything. in malaysia we call them PIG FISH....just like a pig , oscars will gobble up anything eatable. maybe european oscars are more pampered :P unlike their poor asian cousins.hahaha
