http://goto.jorjae.com?276211 these are some photos of the 7 inch vieja argentea i bought a few days back.( check topic..."vieja argentea".Photo 1 and 2 shows clean cut fins , high body and a forehead that has the potential to rival the frontosa. photo 3 shows the tail that spoil an otherwise handsome fish. note the twisted tail or pinch in. photo 4. nice gold sheen on the forehead. so, what am i to do with this fish? 1)for sure he will not be a champion fish, nor will he be allow to mate ...for the good of maintaining the standard of high quality fish. 2)i cant keep him, i dont want to waste my time , effort and money on a crippled fish...hey guys , im not the church, i dont do charity work....i want to see my investments bring in results.3) cant give him away either. an experience aquarist surely would not accept this gift, likewise ...how can u be that heartless to give it to a novice aquarist. 4) returning him to the pet shop and get a devalued refund doesnt sound like a bad idea, but then he would be sold again to someone else...the circle goes on. 5) of course i cant release him into ponds , lakes or waterways.....the Eco boys would kill me. 6) THE FINAL SOLUTION...... kill it. after much consideration ...it had to be done. frankly this fish should have been destroyed when he s a baby. i had never kill a fish this size before...i mean a pet fish....but its my fault for not checking before buying. it had to be done soon , as the longer he stays in the tank, the more soft hearted i will get. :(

um, i can't quite look at the photos (curse the language barrier!) but i'm sure that if he's as beautiful as you say he is, someone could give him a good home. it might be a cultural thing, but a lot of "novice aquarists" around here are more interested in just keeping the fish as pets rather than investments.

i vote for either contacting the local fish society and seeing if there are any people who do charity fish, or else returning him to the store and pitching a fit that they would sell him while hiding that defect. i can't blame you for not wanting a perfect showcase (especially if he was expensive) but not everybody is in the market to breed and show. i'm sure he can find a good home with *someone*.

good luck!

if you don't want to keep the fish because of a (very slight) deformity then let it find a good home somewhere else, even if it is with a less experienced aquarist. there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO KILL A PERFECTLY HEALTHY FISH BECAUSE OF A VERY MILD DEFORMITY  I'm sure with very little effort you can find that argentea a nice home. :)

yea..u are rite guys ...i cant kill it. sure i would like to give him away to someone who could take care of him ...but this is thailand ... aquarist here unlike those in the west...i just dont trust them. how could i when they have a habbit of forever trying to cross breed....its fast buck for them. come up with a new hybred... and u will make a bundle. im not a mean person who thinks abt investment all the time ....but u must consider...its not going to be cheap feeding him , especially once he gets bigger. then think about the limited space i have for him .what will happen to him once my two other argentea grow up? would u or would u not ...want to have the best tanks for your best fish? the wife will kill me if i add in a few more tanks in the house. i ve two more weeks in thailand before i go home to malaysia, i hope i could find someone to keep her before that. :(
