  Bolivian rams are very nice. Don't be deterred by their drab colours in the shop. Once settled they colour up and are very nice. not as vivid as GBR, but nice nonethless.   Dwarf gouramis would probably spend more time in the mid-top part of the tank and be more visible than most of the dwarf...

I can only do ph atm, 7.6 I haven't done anything to lower it yet, but I have had fish in it for ages I do get a crust at the bottom of the kettle after a while, apparently that's an ok way to determine the hardness

i want to get them locally,  My LFS has GBR would they be ok to get if i could get the stuff to treat the water to make it soft?  I really like them, and i dont really want to replace them with the next closest think, know what i mean?

  Hmmm, i was told they like hard water and around 6.0 ph?   I do like the apistogrammas, he bolivian rams look nice too. Maybe ill have a look at those instead

alkaline water is a high ph isnt it? my waters is standard at 7.8-8

I completely agree, I spent a fair amount of time working out where to put the plants and each decoration, although, believe it or not, I actually didn't take any of the ornaments out, I actually added more, but because of the way I put them, they all fit lol

My mum has a 5ft tank, and wants to put discus in it. She wants to know if they can go with angels, how many discus she would need, what conditions they like etc etc   She just want to know exactly what is needed to look after them and if they need any special treatment

As per my OP i was changing the substrate to sand My mum bought a new tank and was given way to many fake plants, so i put some in my tank when i changed the substrate This was the final result   BEFORE:     AFTER:   Opinions? :P

Thanks robbo, I know they are opinions and I accept them, I wasn't trying to be defensive or anything like that, I was just mentioning that the tank is low budget and I was using what I have. I appreciate everyone's opinions as it has also given me ideas onto what I can put in my tank aswell :)

Oh by the way, if you have a look again, there actually is two real plants in the tank, one of them is actually that green though, it looks fake   Thanks TT, the way i see it, i absolutly love these fish so i wouldnt want to hurt them, plus if i can still have atleast one, its still a goal achieved

OK, from what i was told, 300ltr should be fine for a pair in this tank due to its width as well as length, but to be on the safe side, i may just stick to one as a centerpiece

BN are mostly nocturnal anyways, the angels shouldnt give it any issue but from what i have heard, Red tails are territorial and sit mid to lower tank. So aslong as you BN cave isnt in the sharks territory, you should be ok
