Hi guys,

Just looking for some honest opinions on my tank.

Keep in mind that the gravel is going to be taken out next week hopefully and replaced with sand

The tank includes the following

1 Dwarf Flame Gourami
1 Male Fighter
1 Rainbow Shark (Will be rehomed in a week or so)
2 Bronze Cory's (Will be getting 3 more next week)
2 Male Guppies
3 BN Plecs (2 are being rehomed next week)
5 Neon Tetras (Will be getting 5 more next week)

Just looking for honest opinions on the tank :)

Also next week i will hopefully have a new tank and will be putting a pair of oscars in it.
I will be putting up a journal as i am getting the oscars from baby and will do monthly picture updates as well as updates through out that time on their progress so if your interested just keep an eye out :D

Honest opinions? Ok but don't say I didn't warn you... :)

For me the tank looks a little... Unnatural. Of course it's your tank and if you like that look then by all means go for it! :D

I agree, it does look a bit artificial, lot's of places for the fish to hide though which is good.
How big is it? It looks a little overstocked (may not be if its a big enough tank)
It will look better when it has sand instead of that gravel. :)

What size is the tank for the Oscars?

I agree. Those plants look fake, and all the crap and decorations makes it look so artificial.

In my opinion a tank should be a slice of nature, with real plants, some stones and non garishly coloured sand/gravel.

Yeah to be completely honest I agree with TT, show me a tank with natural driftwood and plants against a contrasting background and substrate and I will

 .
To me this does look a little un-natural, but as TT said; if you like this then go for it! I know a lot of people that would envy you for this setup, its just not for me. Looks clean though so well done

I agree about the fake plant thing, i do want to put real plants in it, but when i originally set it up i had a very small budget.
So yeah it does have that unnatural/homemade look to it. But i do actually like it now, its grown on me :D
The tank is a 92ltr, and like i said, the majority of the bigger fish are being restocked, i was even thinking of getting rid of the betta and gourami and putting some shauls like danios and rummynoses etc in there instead
Eventually it will have a naturl look, but i just used what i had around the house and left from old tanks (so i think it turned out pretty good for a budget tank :) )

The tank i am getting for the oscars is a Aqua One Aquience 1200R - 300L - I did however question the size of the tank for a pair. and i have had people from a several forums (not naming for possible reputation sake) and they have said that a pair of oscars and 3-4 smaller cichlids would be fine in that tank because they are a nice and wide as well as decently long tank.

Oscars in a 300L? I would say one but I can't remember the min sizes for them

OK, from what i was told, 300ltr should be fine for a pair in this tank due to its width as well as length, but to be on the safe side, i may just stick to one as a centerpiece

I like this idea :good:

Oh by the way, if you have a look again, there actually is two real plants in the tank, one of them is actually that green though, it looks fake

Thanks TT, the way i see it, i absolutly love these fish so i wouldnt want to hurt them, plus if i can still have atleast one, its still a goal achieved

I think the tank looks great man, the thing with opinions is that yeah, they are opinions :p

If it makes you happy thats what matters, you're the one who looks at it day in day out! For me, live plants and a natural substrate played a bit part in my set up, however, I still love the little inclusions of a coconut cave or terra cotta pot here or there and who is anyone to say that the fish don't love it too ! :) But if it's the natural look you want, I'd suggest slowly transitioning to live plants.

To keep the cost low make sure you are keeping the right type of plants for your tank (light levels and c02) and that in turn will award you with growth. For example instead of buying 3 bunches of say a jungle val, you could look at one bunch and after a few months take the cuttings and grow them out too. As for the Oscars, I agree with the others, they are a big fish and need a big tank :)

Thanks robbo, I know they are opinions and I accept them, I wasn't trying to be defensive or anything like that, I was just mentioning that the tank is low budget and I was using what I have. I appreciate everyone's opinions as it has also given me ideas onto what I can put in my tank aswell :)

And THIS is why I haven't posted any pics of my tank, because I know everyone will be all like "OMG, it's like a glorified child's first fish tank!!" xD

I personally think your tank looks nice. :)

I like natural looks more too BUT I like the idea of having an art style tank with a really nice statue or even a castle. It would be like having a 3d piece of art in your living room. Plus I bet your fish love it with all the places to hide especially the BN's.

And wouldn't it take years for Oscars to grow big enough to be problem in a 300L tank?

And considering all the crap we humans put in our rivers and lakes, this could definitely be the look or some square feet somewhere!
