how big are they? it is possible there all female dependent of temp also females are often in higher numbers than males

Yes long and shallow is best, ideally as said under 12" they are social so get a few, they love coconut caves, moss balls cut open *there hollow inside ;)* branches and broad leaved plants near the surface are a good idea too :) there lovely little things, I want some but only even seen them...

Guppies and mollies can cross but very rarely do, and the fry are always weak and die soon after birth. Platies and Swords can cross too but thats it, nothing else

No Yellow!! DTs are my all time favourite closely followed by HMs

Sorry for your loss, 15 months is a long time to have a betta considering most live for 2 years and are usually nearly a year old when they get into the store

Amano/Algae shrimp are a better option, they are bigger than cherries, I've kept them with bettas no problem :)
