Hi All

My Fantail Fighter has been in his new home for 3 weeks withno problems, last week I purchased X2 Med Rock Shrimp.

My Fighter should no interest are problems with the shrimp,however today my fighter has been attacked very badly. My Wife noticed my Male Sword tale was dead, wouldit be possible they have been fighting. The Sword tail has been seen nipping some other fish. My Wife also thinks the Rock Shrimp has attacked him, as she saw theshrimp go into the Bog Wood where the fighter was resting.

Not sure on what to do, also would I remove my fighter andplace him into a trap so he can heal.

I have no 2nd tank to seperate

Hoping someone can help

Thanks

Dave

Hi

Thanks for the message, my Fantale (Betta) did not make the night. The shrimp are about Med Size in the Roma 90 Tank, with a few neons and a molly.

I am sure the Swordtale was the problem, as right now there is neons around the shrimps and showing no signs of problems. I will keep an eye on them see how we go.

Will let the tank settle down a bit before going for another Beta.

Thanks

Dave

Maybe if your swordtail is this aggressive you shouldn't get another betta.

Or if you really want a betta, you should find another home for the swordtail.

The Swordtail died in the fight, so the betta won the fight just not the battle. I am so gutted as he was such a nice looking fish.

Thanks

OP; how long has your tank been set up and is it cycled? Have you tested the water?

Tank is 9 Months old and fully cycled with no problems, I change 20% water every 2 weeks and replace with treated and RO Water. I also add the Nutrafin Cycle to the tank after every change
The Tank is tested with the following

ammonia = 0.25

Nitrate = 40

Nitrite = 0

So everything looks good,

Thanks

that ammonia reading is not good, it needs to me 0 at all times

Really its Yellow on the test but a tiny bit of Green which puts it in the 0.25 group.

I say it should be 0 but the test says different due to small amount of green.

Also I am running the seneye test machine, this is showing ammonia is good

Thanks

Personally I would suggest at least 50% now and another 50% in the morning - you have to get that ammonia down.
