I may be wrong, but I got the impression the OP was asking if it is okay to stop doing the regular water changes until he gets more dechlorinator at some point in the future.

So Why Don't Liquid Ferts Get Absorbed Into The Filter?

I would be interested in knowing why this is too... Surely it can't merely be down to the salt? There must be other conditions that factor in. Or is it just one of those 'myths' and anoxic conditions don't actually harm FW fish?

Just Done My First Water Tests On My Two Tanks

Can you put some media from your other filter 1 into filter 2? The bacteria from tank 1 would help cycle tank 2. Just don't take too much or else you end up with a problem on tank 1 as well...

    When Is A Cycle Finished?

I am currently about 5 weeks into a fishless cycle and am noticing something regarding the way the filter processes the Nitrite. Working with the figures that 1ppm ammonia produces 2.2ppm Nitrite (or 2.7ppm depending on where you look). I recharge the ammonia in my tank to 3ppm every night...

Thanks for the replies waterdrop and Miss Wiggle, that actually makes a lot of sense. I have read the thread you linked to Miss Wiggle and it is very useful information. I have actually posted a question over there - or more of an observation really... Regarding my cycle. At the moment it...

New Tank Questions - Stocking, Cycling Etc

My Fishless Cycle has now reached that point where it processes the Nitrites down to 0 with 24hrs, then the next day it processes down to 0.3 within 24hrs and so on. So soonish it should be a constant 0. It's interesting looking about at info on Fishless Cycles, some sources suggest that when...

Biological Filter Heart Of A Tank?

I don't think I understand what you are saying here andy... Are you suggesting that the biological media should be the final media before the impeller, or that the wool / floss should be the last media?

New Tank Questions - Stocking, Cycling Etc

Cheers. Fortunately we have a local guppy breeder who breeds show guppies - and apparently they are very good stock. We will probably go for these. I don't know if it is just me, but the guppies in most LFS just don't look as pretty as the ones I remember from 20 years ago. Maybe in recent...

Biological Filter Heart Of A Tank?

Thanks, I will reconfigure my media later then. Is there any reason that I can't put two different media in the same basket? For example, could I put bio-max in the basket and overlay it with a sheet of wool? Would this cause any problems?

Thanks again for the info rabbut. It really is a shame as I really did want the Phantoms, I have really taken a liking to them. Platties are nice, so maybe I will go for more of them. Do platties shoal? Regarding the guppies - you feel they are unsuited to a new tank, or just aren't...

Just changed some filter media in my Fluval 305, and when I plugged it back in, it is making this really awful loud noise and is not pumping. Biological Filter Heart Of A Tank?

I just got some wool for the filter, I am planning on swapping the carbon out for 2 trays of wool and 1 tray containing a sponge. This means the water will filter through the main sponges, followed by the bio-max, then into the wool and finally into a fine sponge. Unless it would be better to...

Biological Filter Heart Of A Tank?

Ok I will most likely get the media replaced then. I planned on reading the filter media article shortly, but didn't consider doing a media change until after the cycle. Waterdrop, my current media is as follows. I have 6 media baskets in the canister, the bottom 2 both contain 'Bio-Max'...

Biological Filter Heart Of A Tank?

hehe - it's one of those topics then. Well the carbon comes with the Fluval 305, so I just put it in. I am happy to get some more bio-media though. Only reason I ask is, would taking the carbon out now, set the fishless cycle back?

Biological Filter Heart Of A Tank?
