Just changed some filter media in my Fluval 305, and when I plugged it back in, it is making this really awful loud noise and is not pumping.

I changed the media back to its original configuration, and still it is making the same loud noise and not working.

If I use the 'priming' pump, it will actually pump water through so the pipes aren't blocked.

Any ideas what could have happened?

The impeller seems to be turning just fine. I have also tested the intake pipe and that isn't blocked.

Typical Fluval  I assum you are still fishless cycling? If so, thankfully this isn't too urgent.

Ok, take the outlet hose off the back and drain a bucket of water through the filter while it is switched off. Drain the bucket, close the valves, return the hose to the bucket and switch the filter on. Open the valves and allow the water to flow into the bucket, hopefully with increased flow as the pump kicks in. This will clear any air jams allowing the pump to start. If this does not work, there is a mechanical bug somewhere...

Check the impeller, the impeller shaft, the bushing in the hole and the impeller chaimber cover. If nothing jumps out at you, re-assemble an try again. If this still does not work, you need to take it back. If you find a bust part, call the supplier and explain the situation. They will hopefully allow you to swap the bust part for a new one, just taking in the bust bit, or they may want the whole filter, but thats at their discression.

If you can't fix it, keep the media in the tank loose to keep it in contact with ammonia and oxygen, avoiding too bigger bacterial die-off. Idealy, you'd place the media over an airline so it gets some flow, but this may not be available to you

EDIT: Ahh, seems it was a blocked outlet hose!!!! Thanks rabbut your a star!!!
