    Diy Tank Stand...wheels?

I figured I would post the nearly finished product just because I'm surpised and proud of how it's turning out. Wheel-less.... Fill the nail holes and a couple of coats of poly, and maybe the wife will let me move my operation into the house. ;)

    What Are Your Cpd's Eating?

Ahhhh....I might see if they like those! I can culture those at home, and maybe save a couple of bucks. They are eating the Rotifers and micro pellets(which I still have to crush). Hikari makes a quality product, but depending on how quick I go through these foods, and how large my collection...

    Thinking About A Betta Pair

Thanks all! I was just curious for some other stock for a small tank, and I have heard of Bettas being kept in tanks as small as 1 gallon. Going to stick with the CPD species tank, and perhaps attempt a breeding in my 20gl.

Note: although a tank with soil promotes good plant growth this will be the last one. Every time something needs to be altered it makes a huge mess. I just got done with my first pruning of the Wisteria, and Uhg! As soon as the crypt spiralis and Sagittaria start showing signs of positive...

    What Are Your Cpd's Eating?

I may just be used to Tiger Barbs devouring their food in seconds flat, and eagerly eating with gusto. But my new CPD's don't feed like that at all. I have a high quality flake. Some are eating. Others are taking it in, and then spitting it out. They move so quick I'm not sure if all of them...

I started Flourish Excel today. Also, I added some API root tabs. Although my plants are growing well I am having a slight algae break out. Green Dust Algae. Only see it on the glass right now, and have a Nerite snail in there to help out. I want to get to the root of the problem. I read green...

    Thinking About A Betta Pair

I have a small 5.5gl heavily planted tank, and I am thinking about Betta's. I would really like to keep a male/female pair, but a lone male would be nice too. The tank is currently home to 12 CPD's. Would Betta's hassle these little guys?

    Lighting Mis-Calculation - Co2?

Im going to put flow on the back burner for now. I have a hob filter rated for a 40 to 75gl tank working. When fully open it's like a washing machine in this little 5.5gl. Nutrients....I think I will look into some root tabs, and something easy to bring up P and K levels. I really don't want to...

    Lighting Mis-Calculation - Co2?

Thanks Dr. Rob. A possible solution if depleting co2 becomes an issue might be Flourish Excel?

Just got done changing it up a little bit, and I added some new inhabitants. I finally found them!!! 6 new Celestial Danios...5 males and 1 female. I found them at my local shop which had not had them in the past. They have a sale every weekend 40% off Friday/Saturday/Sunday. This made them...

    Lighting Mis-Calculation - Co2?

Thanks for the explanation. What would some signs be that the plants are using all available co2? How do they differ from nutrient issues?

I used the wrong verbage there...I guess I mean that it is not my first suspicion due to the excellent growth and condition of the majority of my plants.

    Lighting Mis-Calculation - Co2?

There is a thread here written by George Farmer that I read, and he states this method: "5. Use a plug-in timer to control your photoperiod. I run a siesta that in my experience helps to further prevent algae. 5 hours on, 2 off, 5 on is ideal. I have tried many combinations of photoperiods...

    Lighting Mis-Calculation - Co2?

I am starting to get algae, and that's why I am asking. I looked up the algae on "the planted tank", and the noted causes for green dust algae as low co2 and low nutrients. I ruled out nutrients because I have soil and substrate fortified with Laterite, and I also dose with API leaf zone once a...

    Lighting Mis-Calculation - Co2?

As in the title I thought my lighting was at 1.3wpg, but I have come to find I am actually at 2wpg. Is co2 necessary? I guess I don't fully understand why co2 is necessary for high lighting set-ups.

    Diy Tank Stand...wheels?

Framed it all with 2x2 pine, and then shelves and side and back panels 1/2" oak veneered plywood. I felt it needed the side and back panels to keep the frame from shifting forward, back, or side to side. I'm not a good enough carpenter to give you any practical easy tips.... But, I can tell you...

Collecting Tanks....anyone Have A Couch I Can Crash On?

Ok...so my MTS might be a little out of control. I just recently found out that what I thought was a 10 gallon tank my wife bought, and got me started with this hobby is actually only a 5.5 gallon  , but that's a different story. Since March I have purchased a brand new 37 gallon, used...

The way the Sag is coming in is really starting to grow on me. Between the wood sticks there are 3 runners which are going to look good there naturally. It also has runners like mad inside there own planting area. Once they get rooted solidly, and some decent growth I think I will move one...

    Diy Tank Stand...wheels?

Sounds nice. I agree you can build a very sturdy stand with minimal lumber, and as I prodded my way through this project I gained a lot of ideas for future stands. In this build it was pretty important to me to actually make it look like a nice piece of furniture. This was to help appease the...

    Murky Water

If its not a bacterial bloom, activated carbon polishes water pretty well. It is also not all that pricey. Or, you could try using Seachem Purigen. I just added it to my tank, and the clarity of the water is amazing. crystal-clear. It is a little bit up there in price compared to carbon, but...

    Diy Tank Stand...wheels?

Coming along slowly. Trimmed and skinned After skinning the frame it left the middle shelf only large enough to hold a 20gl long, but should still be fun. Bright side of that is it reduced the weight load by 135lbs or so. Thinking of maybe fabricating a steel carriage/dolly in a rectangle...

Any Plants That You Just Cannot Grow?

Sagittaria Subulata is my current head ache. I read all over the internet what an easy plant this was to care for, and "a great plant for beginners". So, my struggle with this plant is making me feel like a dufus. I'm getting crazy runners off the mothers, but the longer leaves on mother are...

    Brown Algae

Diatoms appears in new set-ups, or where ammonia was present at some point. It wipes off easy enough, and will eventually clear up on its own after awhile. It is unsightly, but it's just a little extra maintenance for a couple of weeks. I have read Oto's won't touch it.

Painting The Back Of My Tank

I will be watching this because I want to paint the back of mine as well. But, in the mean time I have put a little vasiline on my background to help it "stick" to the glass. It seems to be working well for now, and water is not able to penetrate.

    Is It Possible?

Interesting question. I wonder the same thing myself. I guess it depends on why you are doing the changes. Most of the time you do water changes to help keep nitrates from getting to high levels that will harm livestock. Doing a w/c every other day would keep all water stats at diluted and low...

    Foam?

Anything besides some type of contamination that would cause this?? This started a couple of days ago. The airstone is causing this. It has no odor, and the minute you touch it it disappears. I don't think it is soap or residue of some sort because I don't use anything around my tank...

    Diy Tank Stand...wheels?

Thanks! I agree...just wanted a way to access the back easily, or move it if I had too. And could not get the wheel idea out of my head. It's going to be carrying so much weight I don't want to make it unstable...especially with 2 little kids running around. If I ever need to move it I will...

    Diy Tank Stand...wheels?

I am almost finished building a tank stand for my 46g bowfront. The stand will also hold my current 10g, but is meant to hold up to a 37g tank sometime in the future. I am thinking I would like to put wheels on it. That way if I have to ever move it I can relatively easily. Now the issue...

    Tanked

Cool tanks on that show, and great tank builders. Some things are incredible. But, I have to say.. awful and ugly fake coral that they shove into everything. Even fresh water set-ups! Hi. I purchased this plant at the lfs, and it was listed as "micro sword" I've tried Google, but it does not look like any of the micro sword I can find there. It looks a lot like normal amazon swords, but not exactly. Plus, its much smaller and more compact. I am trying to find out if the...
